Burgess worried for Rossi’s rivals

Valentino Rossi’s crew chief Jerry Burgess believes the switch to a single make tyre rule for 2009 could have potentially dire consequences for the world title aspirations of Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa.

The Aussie reckons it will be even harder to defeat the Italian in the future now that the entire premier class field will all run on Bridgestone rubber.

“If I was a rider out there now I wouldn’t want to be on the same stuff as Valentino Rossi. That’s a tough call, “said Burgess, who believes Rossi will still be dominant and that MotoGP will not be significantly improved as a spectacle.

He added: “It was virtually a mono tyre several years ago without a regulation with Michelin in 500s and we saw some pretty uninteresting racing there with Mick (Doohan) clearing away and winning races. When it was Mick and Valentino in the past with everyone on the same brand, those guys did most of the winning, so nothing will change.”

yeah if i am in his place i would be concerned also.

how much races rossi will win next year? 9, 10 or eleven?

congrat's vale, in this time next year you will be 9 time world champ (7 in premier class) and you'll have 100+ race wins.

Nothing disputes this statement, Rossi did a couple laps on the first day of testing and then said yep this works just fine do not need to be here and then he went out and partied! The sad thing is this is the truth.

The good thing is, the last time Rossi won a championship then became complacent, he lost the next two years in a row.

Jumkie's theory has produced even better evidence of truth than mine.

Burgess basically saying that the control tire has been constructed for Rossi and that Pedrosa and Stoner have more than likely lost their custom kit.

I suppose Burgess could also be spreading the seeds of fear b/c he has sour grapes about the whole control tire mess. Who knows?

Times at 5pm, the end of the test:

1 Casey Stoner Ducati 1'32.464 31 / 54
2 Dani Pedrosa Honda 1'32.672 24 / 60
3 Valentino Rossi Yamaha 1'32.921 20 / 34

Rossi did 34 laps with none better than 1/2 second slower than Stoner (totally ...... up hand) so don't get too excited.

... and rossi starded with testing at 3pm.... and we all know that he goes flat out on every test session, every fp and every wup... particullary on his first test with new machinery...

I would comment on this thread, but seeing that Pinky started it, all I have to say is F Off Pinky.

Practise your excuses all winter. Rossi's tires...ha, he's just having a laugh with you.

Nope, he didn't say (or even imply) anything like that.

I agree with you as far as the tyre developed for rossi part.

Burgess is on record as saying he did not support a control tyre, and is I would consider understandably unhappy about the demise of michelin with whom he had a long association. He is also in my view correct that a control tyre as is likely with a control anything else will favour the strongest rider.

It obviously cannot be they have any concern about what stoner might do next year since they have obviously finished him for good

You mean just like at Laguna, Brno, Japan, Misano...
That is of course not a fair comparison as Rossi just had half the laps as the rest and he laways take his time to get up to speed if needed. Finally, he's not a kid that continously need to prove something at every test and FP.
Yeah, we sure are worried.

You're right. He must be implying that Rossi/Yamaha use Ducati's tires better than Ducati.

I suppose it's possible, Ducati couldn't even run their own tires after wiping the floor with the competition at Qatar.

As if that would be a miracle.

Considering Rossi left Michelin because he couldn't use Pedrosa's tires, yes, it would be a miracle.
