<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (somedamnwriter @ Feb 11 2009, 02:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>2006 for me

It's a good combination of drama (from rossi's misfortunes to hayden's consistency, to the close racing [elias anyone?]), wins (vale didn't win the championship but he won a lot), and everything else on the side.

I have not and will never see any replay of the Valencia 06, but this season gets my vote.

I'm of course two sided on this. My bigest argument against 2006 would be the lack of competetive riders mid season. Most of the top riders were out becuse of injuries and that made the field thin for a period. But except from that it was with no doubt the season with the most drama and excitment so I have to go with '06 as well. '04 is a very good runner up.

i dont hate him, i respect him and he's freakin awesome

but the days of him owning the field are over....
not like he's bad or something, but stoner and in lesser ways lorenzo, pedrosa can match him now...

stoner had 9(!!!) poles in a row, stoner gapped the rest of the field plenty of times, pedrosa has beaten him more than once with quite the gaps...

rossi isnt owning the field anymore, i think stoner was dominating 2008, like 2007, but stoner's bike failed him at brno and rossi did, on purpose, brake too soon at laguna seca, so stoner ran wide... stoners bike broke down....

pedrosa was injured after germany, lorenzo was gettin serious to much airtime;)

No, the FACT is that Nicky Hayden won the championship while Rossi was busy pouring gravel out of his boots in the gorgeous Valencian sun. FFS it was two years ago and Rossi lost fair and square. Jesus Christ, what is wrong with some of you disciples? It's not enough to have eight world titles? Some younger, unassuming riders beat him two years on the spin and it's because the Yamaha was ..... or the Ducati was unstoppable or the Michelins were .....? The Honda was quite unstoppable the years Rossi was there, perhaps those titles aren't warranted then? Ducati switched to the inferior Bridgestone in 2005 and as a capable team fielding a capable rider, perhaps the 2005 title doesn't count either.

If you can't handle the fact your boy actually lost a championship or two, then grow up. I mean honestly, how much longer do those of us with any sense of rationality have to put up with this .....? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/.....gif

im not gettin into this argument again but i will tell you something, i aint taking .... away from stoner because he does ride that ducati like a demon and has gained respect from me for doing so but... the GP8 still had the performance edge by quite a margin last season and laguna should have pointed that out, rossi had to ride the wheels of that bike to keep up, take your stoner bucket off your head and open your eyes, stoner was crashing out trying to run from rossi and most of the time by pushing the envelope to much, there was nothing mysterious about stoner crashing out.

just face it stoner didnt want to get into a 1 on 1 with rossi and thats his reason for crashing, i agree that stoner had some ...... luck to just like rossi had in 06. Like everyone says its gettin the most points that make a champion.....

i aint saying anymore about the rossi vs stoner debate but this is how it was and if you want to dissagree then fine but i have my own eyes and mind to make judgement.

I think to say that the GP8 "had the performance edge by quite a margin" over the M1 might be a stretch. With Stoner at the controls, it was probably the strongest bike on the grid but Rossi, and to a greater extent Lorenzo, proved that M1 was plenty capable of winning races. Agreed about the crashing though, Stoner was trying to run away to avoid a battle with Valentino.
