was great. Hayden, Assen, & Bayliss wildcard win was huge highlights, but what sucked was Loris Capparossi horrid crash and also dani's targeting system.

2004 was the greatest by far!!! The biggest ..... slap to HRC that was heard around the world...

My hand is up. Guilty as charged. I loved 2004 - I loved seeing Rossi taking the M1 to the title. But...BUT...before you all call me a mindless cheerleader (gosh I haven't heard that one in a while)..while it was great to see Rossi prove himself, I also loved seeing HRC get their come uppance. I loved it that they were seething away, being proved wrong, and that someone out there was showing them that it's not just the bike that matters.
Damn this year's gonna be hard with Dovi riding for Repsol...part of me loves the kids to bits and wants to see him get on that podium at every race...but damn..HRC.

I have very mixed feelings about 2006. Most people have voted that and yeah it was a great season. As a Rossi fan it was hard to see him fall so spectacularly behind..there was some close racing and Rossi's amazing comeback through the points. OK he lost the last race but it still made for some great races. But at the same time it's hard to forget how in Catalunya Gibbers momentarily thought he was bowling...mowed down half the field and put Capirossi and my boy Marco (in my opinion both serious title contenders that season) out of action and out of the running for the championship. I still remember thinking 'oh god I think he's dead' when Marco was immobile in the kitty litter. So yeah a good season, but with some bad memories too.

it was a horror to watch melandri going down that race... imo, he was the best rider in 2006(rossi not counted, as always

BTW, agree with you and Travi about the HRC thing. But a ..... slam a season doth not make.

I think the question was in regards to the racing, NOT the consequential statement. But anywho, I suppose there is no right or wrong answer, except that 06 was the most interesting, entertaining, drama packed, Hollywood ending, close racing season in the 990 era; right or wrong is an opinion, this is a fact jack.

it's NOT who won..it's THE racing... you talk about mindless cheerleading... Maybe you should put down your Nicky Hayden POM POMS you ...

2006 is the best season of racing I've seen in any motorsport. Along with the examples already cited I'd like to add the German GP, 4 bikes with in striking distance of the lead at the flag. Don't happen no more.
<
That & Assen will be with me until the day I die.

Cool Arrow.

Let me ask you somethin. Was the racing close in 06? The points were very close and had two riders tied in point at Cataluya where drama ensued. All the podiums were hard fought race after race. Germany, Assen...were amazing leading up to the USGP. After Laguna, where Rossi was behind 50 points but chipped away every race, was that exciting for you as a Rossi fan to see him make that comeback little by little? The penultimate race at Portugal, the points changed hands, the Dani Torpedo was major drama, yet that race finish was fantastic.... What was your excitement level going into the last race of 06? When was the last time, in the many years you have been watching MotoGP, that you felt that way going into the last race of the season?

For me it was pins and needles. The only difference is that my guy won, but the pins and needles you felt was called excitement. I suspect had your guy prevailed, it would have been hands down the greatest season ever for most of MotoGP fans the world over (which are almost one in the same). So what is the difference then? Ah, the result, right? Haha, cabron, 2006 was in fact the best 990 era season. Deal with it.

Like i said..my choice does not come down to who won..rather the entire season...yes 06 was a great season...lots ups and downs....but there were many issues that were not rider related...the down fall of Michy.... the years i speak of the racing was great... come over and we can run through all the races i have...i'll buy the first case of beer..

That & Assen will be with me until the day I die.

i would have to go with 2002 World Superbike,Bayliss builds up huge points lead and Edwards wins like the last 8 races to come back for the title. Then 2006 GP

2006 for me

It's a good combination of drama (from rossi's misfortunes to hayden's consistency, to the close racing [elias anyone?]), wins (vale didn't win the championship but he won a lot), and everything else on the side.

I have not and will never see any replay of the Valencia 06, but this season gets my vote.
