Ben Spies Update video, post Qatar

It's all in the elbows Tom

your right big Ben is a very gifted an entertaining rider with a great understanding of the craft. The fact that he doesn't know what stoner is doing is probably best, I'd be paying much more attention to his stablemates.....

That's right. Learning anything that might make him as fast as Stoner would be a complete waste of time.

I've got a theory that the Team <strike>Pramac</strike> Peckerhead team manager didn't bother to give either of his riders a pre-employment eye exam...

We know Kalliokaze is totally ....... blind - maybe Asparagus too?

Arrogance maybe? He's been in GP system for 5-6 years, so he damn well knows about qualifying. Paybacks a ...... You could tell that it bothered Ben enough that he will keep to his word and dish a little of the same.

Ben isn't afraid to pass agressively. Some of the moves he showed last year in WSBK were the things we as spectators live for. I'm sure that he'll ruffle the feathers of some of the other rookies. Ben gets more press than all the other rookies combined. Maybe that had something to do with Espargaro's disrespect.

yes several have already mention it was lame. OTT is a tiny start up, basically a couple of guys who started last year covering AMA with a handheld camera, so don't judge too harshly. They are not very good at it, and I can't say I could do better, as they are not trained, but honestly, they are doing something I wish I had the time to do. Its basically what me and you would do if we had a skype fone to a favorite rider. Regardless, S-pies carried that interview completely thank God.

Don't sell yourself short, Bro!  You and many here could easily come up with better initial and follow-up questions than those that were asked.

Wanted to check that he wasn't some well respected guru in the US, before I dished .... on him, but he seemed really unprepared, and didn't seem to know enough to ask real intelligent questions.
Good luck to these guys at OTT and I hope they succeed, and its awsome that they are posting a post race interview with Ben Spies (credit for pulling this off), but this guy seems to just make up the questions on the spot, and a couple of times seemed a little lost.
Man, if I had a 5 min one on one chat with Spies, I would run out of time before I ran out of questions.

Credit to Spies, he seems really grounded, and respectful. Very cool guy, and he will win a lot of fans this way. I get the feeling Spies is 100% in MotoGP for the racing. Not the fame, not for the money, purely for the racing and wanting to be the best.

I very much doubt it was intentionall. We've seen many riders with varied experience get in the way of others in Qualifying, its a difficult thing to manage and i'm sure it comes up in the riders briefings

I'm not sure how, when or where on the track that it happened, but I also doubt very much if it was intentional. Same claim with different names like Biaggi, Glibernau blocking Rossi or Capi with Harada and I'd maybe have a different opinion

If i remember rightly it was into the last turn. It didn't look like Ben had to adjust his line but perhaps the distraction in his field of vision was an issue or he had to back off in anticipation. Aleix probably just didn't take enough of a look behind him or mis-judged the speed differential. He's never shown any unsporting nature on or off the track so i'm certainly giving him the benefit of the doubt unless given a reason not to.

Tom, if you had seen it, you would have thought it was very intentional. Do you have a motogp pass? Check it out during qual, you'll say WTF was Espargaro thinking. He slowed down and looked back a couple times. As he saw Ben approaching he then appeared not to move from race line quickly, dragging himself, as Ben came adjacent Espargaro hit the gas going into the straight. Ben looked back as if to say, are you ....... kidding me? Even the commentators were at a loss. It was odd, but it did not look unintentional. For a moment it even looked like Espargaro was repaying a vendetta or something.

Also, Ben isn't lose with his talk. Even when the Fabrizio torpedo hit him and the media was looking to spike some drama Spies was reluctant to play along. He said what was on his mind then let it go. When Spies says he will remember what Espargaro did he's not just making up imaginary ..... He's not bitching about a little eye distraction or what he thought was an accidental move. Those of us that know Spies know that when he says someone ...... up, they ...... up. Espargaro for whatever reason blocked Spies.

No your description fits pretty much what i think i saw. Like i said i'm giving Espargaro the benefit of the doubt. Lets just hope he's more careful in future and Ben doesn't do anything stupid looking for 'revenge'

I've watched the Asparagus / Pies incident several times, and can't see that Ben was impeded much, if at all.  Eparago was on the racing line for a while, then went straight at the corner entrance.  He appeared to clear the racing line by the time Spies reached his turn-in point. It WAS close, and I think Esparago misjudged the closing speed a little.

Just for grins - what happens when Kalliokaze and Asparagus meet each other during a hike?

It sounds more likely than anything else.
