Assen Cathedral Of Speed - predictions

When I saw Marquez go for the soft I just knew he was ....... Every time he chooses the soft it backfires but not today.
My thoughts, exactly.

What a fantastic race. I thought Rossi was going to podium for sure. But he just don't get the leeway no more. I may watch that race again, tomorrow. A good day of racing.

I'd watch it again right now but think I may need 24hrs as well just to recover.

I thought Rossi rode well enough for a podium, probably even second, but no-one was going to match MM's late race pace. As you say, he doesn't get any leeway now, he has made a career of never conceding a corner, but no-one is going to concede a corner to him at this stage in proceedings either.

I’m watching it as soon as they post the replay, usually takes about an hour. Lol

He was playing with them pure and simple.

If he was it was wild. The commentators were saying that scrimmage was so risky to the race prospects of those involved that anyone who could have removed themselves from it would have done so, but perhaps MM is a different animal. He did make at least one miraculous save as is his wont after that attempted pass on him (?Rins or Vinales), but true to form had no complaint himself post race.

Crutchlow. He can’t seem to pass Rossi, and when he does, you know he will get repassed.

That pin could have been pulled anytime he wanted . He likes to race but the whiners pitched a fit and he showed them what the alternative was . Carmelo should go to his motorhome and fondle his balls for making that race what it was. Had he wanted, it could have been a hell of a race for second.

It just dawned on me, Pedro was nowhere in this one. Has he gone off the boil or are Honda just pulling support already?

Sure, he is that rare animal, an out and out racer, probably more than Rossi at his peak, perhaps only paralleled by Hailwood from what I have read although he was before my time.

Was mentioned on BT that he has admitted to being stressed about future which just isn't him. think that has played a massive part in this weekend's performance.
Can't see Honda pulling support when they could get him involved in the constructors.

His press conference a couple of weeks ago is still a bit weird to me. I reckon he was going to announce retirement but the rumoured move to petronas yamaha came up late on. A case of mind being elsewhere.

Very similar to PI 2015. Manage the tyres the whole race, then last 2 laps-boom.
Putting the soft on, he obviously decided from the start this was the case today. A brave fella that decides to put himself back into a battle like that, just cause.

And PI 2017. As the race went on, you could tell he was playing when he would get bumped and drop 2-3 spots or run off track and lose a second then within a lap or two he would be leading again. He had close to a second in his pocket.

Very happy customers on the podium.

Worth every penny!

One of the first European races I ever saw (on VHS) was Assen in ‘79. I’d have been happy to see any race with no rain. Today just blew my mind. Me and Ashe and da wife were in a great spot and saw so many passes from less than 150 feet away. I can die happy. Can’t wait to watch again.

Agreed mate, just what I was thinking. Marc has been running hard tires a lot recently, so, whilst he chose the soft and mediums thinking they would last the race, I don't reckon he had the confidence that they would go full race distance if he cleared off running high 133s and low 134s like he did in warm up. For Marc I felt that this was a classic tyre management scenario, just with some immense battles thrown in for good measure. He really is the complete package.
Big respect to Rins and also James Toseland who called him early on in the weekend for a result. In fact respect to everyone for a brilliant race.
