What's the main segment now? Adv. bikes?
ADV bikes and dual sports are the biggest sellers now... these bikes have been around for ever, but only recently became this popular especially with the younger demographic. I think it is because of so many adventure riders on youtube and tiktok.

MX bikes are still my most popular sellers, even though prices are up on them, still a lot of demand especially for the higher priced versions. Probably why Ducati and Triumph are getting into that segment.

That may be a small reason. It ain't just sport bike riders who watch motoGP though.
The racing is now more processional than it has ever been in my memory. All the riders are saying it is harder to pass due to the aero and ride height.
Less engaging to watch without the lead changes and passes imo. Less sliding and sideways action too. Lead changes and passing has always stood motorcycle racing apart from car racing, take that away and you take away a big part of the draw card.
perhaps the bikes are engineered to well to be as efficient and fast as possible and run on the exact same line.

Do you know what really pisses me off? Since they updated the app, these is no 'no spoiler' section. While you can set it that way on your phone, you cannot on the smart TV app. So I have to get my wife to scroll through the app to find the race if I haven't seen it live.

It's like Dorna are TRYING to alienate people.
each site upgrade has been a downgrade. I hate the newest one. I have a friend who cannot even find the races after. I have to send him a link.

Nope. When following another bike the aero is less effective due to the dirty air in the draft. Less downforce and harder to out brake the leading bike.
Furthermore the lack of clean air on the tyre equals an overheated front tyre after several laps of following, so again less traction, so harder to out brake and enter a corner hot.
Processional racing is the result.

Have we had a race this year with all riders compete without any stand-in's due to injuries? This, added to watching continued rider injuries and layovers, as well as witnessing the predicament of Yamaha and Honda, have made watching the races oddly unfulfilling. However, I continue to watch most of the races and sprints.

Never rode a motorcycle, but am a fan of the sport. I've been to a couple races and watching them race is breath-taking with the tele broadcast not doing the spectacle of it as much justice.... far moreso that watching F1 and I've attended F1 races too. This is why I continue to watch the series, if not only for the riders.

Exactly my point, the bikes are not designed to run in 2nd, engineers build the bikes to qualify 1st on the grid.

I would not say they need to "run on the exact same line" however. Riders with different styles appear to be able to ride the Ducati fast on different lines. A good example of that with the onboard footage in the last race of Pecco and Martin.

I am just saying what helps makes them fast in clear air (aero) does not make it easy to pass. So processional racing. I would like that ride height ..... gone too.

Anyway I agree the engineers have made them fast. They are just crap to watch racing each other.

This makes me wonder if it is possible to break this cycle by creating a bike that is capable of being as fast without aero and ride height. A bike that in the right hands could destroy this formula by being raceable.

If anyone it's Yamaha. But I'd say they need to keep the ride height devices and lose the aero.

Can't see it happening sorry. So much power, particularly in the desmodronic Dukes. The aero and ride height control is needed to keep the wheels on the deck. No contact with the road then no traction.
Not only that, aero and ride height serves to increase the force on the tyres when they are in contact with the ground for longer, so more traction than without.

I agree. Suzuki was probably the most likely before they decided to leave the .... show but yamaha would definitely be the most likely. They have great corner speed and the current engine is powerful just unusable. If they figure the bike out it could be a game changer.

Yup I get all that. But it is not impossible a fantastic bike in the right hands could disrupt this dominance. A simple fix for this dominance would be for them to undo the one thing that made this work. A harder carcass tire. Three years ago ktm complained of the tire carcass being to soft for their bike to work properly. A tire that the yamaha, suzuki, and honda worked best on. The next season after testing the new tire was the one ktm wanted. Ducati became so much better as did KTM and aprillia while the japanese three began to suffer. DORNA gave them the tire the aero bikes need to be able to win. If they take the tire away the tables would turn.

I believe this was the justification for the current formula. Marc had the old game figured out. Even after MotoGP switched to Michelin, HRC and Marc kept getting stronger, and he racked up 6 premier class titles by the age of 26. Before his injury, the MSMA were probably assuming Marc would win 10 titles, if the basic 1000cc formula continued. Unlike other champions, Marc didn't bounce from manufacturer to manufacturer so the GPC decided to pit Marc against the engineers to see if man or machine would win.

I'm sure they thought it would be interesting, and then Ducati pulled the pin last season, and reminded everyone that this is the 21st century. Man has no chance.

Maybe a soft tyre would fix it.
Hard to see without the ride height being removed to. Yeah maybe the aero would cook a softer front tyre.

Don't see it happening unfortunately.

what the softer carcass tire couldn't handle was the added load on breaking caused by the aero and lowering device. It caused them to be unstable. Imo similar to the unstability the honda has with the harder one. The lighter load doesn't allow the honda to grip the track like it did before. It doesn't allow Marc to have the feel he did before of the tire letting go. This is why I hate the tire rule. Each bike should be allowed to use a tire the suits it.

The control tire is just that, something they can use to control the results.

Absolutely. The manufacturers should be able to use any tire they want and have the tire manufacturers make what they think will work best, test, etc.

It just seems that the racing is becoming very dangerous, what with the riders getting spit off without warning.

I am getting tired of watching these near catastrophes.

The rules have to be a formula for racing, not a demolition derby.

If they can get rid of the wings I'm all for it.
However letting any team use any tyre would just mean the Ducatis use a harder carcass to handle the higher loads the aero and ride height devices impose.
Put a soft tyre under the Honda and it ain't going to be faster than a Ducati with a harder carcassed tyre imo.
The lap times aren't slower now from what I am seeing.
No circuit is listing a lap time that old that it predates wings and ride height as the lap record.
You would still need a tyre rule but one that bans the harder tyre carcass.
Just ban the bloody wings and ride height control to stop us heading down the path of higher and higher costs and formula one style processional racing.

Ok, but I am thinking that somebody could come up with a way to negate the aero and ride height if a bike could be built with enough power and keep it on the ground and let the rider on the machine pass and also not worry about getting chucked off with no warning. I’m probably dreaming, I know.

Looks like Yamaha had that bike a year ago. Problem is, they stood still and got passed up.

One of the things that ride height does is that it changes the angle of the aero. Lower the rear and there is less aero downforce, raise the rear and there's more aero downforce. Of course it isn't as simple as that, there's plenty of other factors involved. How if ride height is banned then a major redesign is required and that will probably play into the hands of manufacturers that have the greatest budget.

While aero is being blamed for a lack of overtaking which is probably correct as it would result in shorter braking zones another problem is the front tyre heating up which happens when following other riders, perhaps aero contributes to that too but it adds to making overtaking more difficult.
