AMA Rd 2: INFINEON Raceway

1st AMA Pro win!

(Sidenote, Honda is NOT involved in the AMA. This is a privateer effort as it gets. Im talking all volunteers putting in their own money and time on this. Im talking daddy pays momma prays. Im talking friends & family taking out their wallet and pitching in. We have members here who i've never met sending in their hard earned money. These guys had to borrow pit shirts cuz AMA requires it. I could tell of several personal hardships. Thats what it takes.)

Congrats to Benny, and to you as well Jum. Victory is sweeter when it come s like this. I just dont understand why a kid with this kind of talent is not getting support from Honda.

I noticed Gillem was absent as well. I know he crashed at Daytona and never raced day 2. Maybe he's still hurt?

Congrats to Benny and his family and all those like Jumkie who helped him on the way. 1st win of many!!!!

Thanx guys. Two other kids we are working with: Daytona SportBike, Tyler Odom & Fernando Amantini 12, 13th respectively.

Great stuff Jums and congrats to all involved.

It is this level of commitment that makes racing what it is and ads to the enjoyment of those watching when a true private team can get results like this

Gaz

I told him not to buy that damn Gubmint Motors vehicle, but nooooooo

Jumkie, it appears we have another ringer in the DSB series, and im not talking about a rider. The 848 is just to strong for the little 6's. The 749 could not compete, the 848 is to strong. First you had the Buell ringer, now the Duc. What was funny is Eslick was about to explode, wanting to say something about the power advantage the Duc has over his Suzuki, but he knew he couldnt after riding the Buell to a title

Yea, AMA might have to peek at the 848 and see if they can make minor tweeks, but DiSalvo has to be on cloud 9 right now.

The Hayden and Hayes show looks to run all season and should be exciting to watch.

Just when DSB had a great competitive yr they take a step backwards and let another ringer in. Poor Herrin has spent half his career chasing the rabbit.

JK, L8, Pov, I just texted 3 DSB crew chiefs this question: "Should the Ducati 848 be legal in DSB? Does it have an unfair advantage?

I'll let you know what they reply.

Meanwhile here are a few pics of the weekend. BTW, I haven't seen the races on TV. A gremlin pulled all the cords from the wall socket and I missed everything. I'm waiting for somebody to post torrents on RU. I heard SB R2 was pretty good.

Congrats to your boy Solis Jum. How drunk did you guys get haha. It was a good race weekend all things considered.

I still am on the fence on that 848 Ducati...

The 848 was fine last year. They just have better riders on them this year.

Congrats, Jumkie!

They came out with something new this year and from what ive read, it puts about 120hp to the rear wheel and has over 60ftlbs of torque.Thats stock. Compared to around 110hp and the 45 ftlbs of torque for the top 600's. Thats a huge difference. DMG has seen enough, they just announced that the bikes were headed to the dyno, not that we will ever hear the results. If the Ducati is all of a sudden hit with a 10 lb weight penalty, or the 600's with a 10 reduction, we will know there was a substantial difference on the dyno.

Why would they do this after 3 races.? Stupid question. Its the AMA. Wouldnt it make sense to dyno all manufacturers before the season starts not after Disalvo has won 3 races and maybe allready decided the championship

It will be interesting to see what action DMG takes.

You might remember that DMG were pushing the idea of homologation specials back in 2009. They unveiled the plan by homologating the Buell 1125RR then the Buell 1190RR without notifying the Japanese as to what was going on. The Ducati 848 Evo was designed to be raced in the AMA, and the name Evolution has traditionally been used by manufacturers to designate the model as a homologation special for Group or Class competition in the FIA (e.g. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (WRC) or Mercedes 190 Evolution I & II (DTM)).

The 848 Evo is not technically an AMA-branded race-only homologation special as DMG requested, but I would be surprised if DMG actually tried to slow the bike down. They might raise the weight to make it look like they want to slow the bike down, but I doubt it will stop DiSalvo. I doubt the Ducati will have such a sizable advantage at other venues anyway.

Well, they won the tight and twisty Infineon track, and the high speed Daytona track [with the help of a new engine mid race]. Seems they have most of the bases covered.
