Reply 1 (Runs a ZX6): Duc is a real race bike. It should have restrictions against 600s. Easier to ride, too much advantage.

Reply 2 (Runs a R6): We were sent on Saturday to the dyno. AMA keeps that info and doesn't make public. R6 with spec fuel is 118-122HP, Duc in race form with spec fuel, 128-132 HP.

Reply 3 (Ran a R6): Absolutely not, its ....... ridiculous, all Jap 600s are 599cc, Duc 849cc, WTF. That bike makes near same to higher HP, but more torque, that puts power to ground. But I think if track is more flowing overall, the 600s will do a bit better.

So I guess the consensus from these three guys is no.

"Should the Ducati 848 be legal in DSB?No Does it have an unfair advantage?Yes

Is that the consensus?

After a quick check, the hp to weight ratio is not the problem. The Duc has a slight edge at 1 hp to 2.9 lbs, compared to 1hp to 3 lbs. Obviously, DMG has once again excluded torque as a factor when performance indexing. Dumb ...'s

If you assume that the bikes are running on the min limit. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Japanese bikes do not run at the weight limit. Maybe Jumkie can find out?

I think the consensus was the 848 needs to be restricted.

Btw, Ducati North America list the 848 as 140HP, and states its the "most powerful middleweight"

Where did you get this info?

I'll ask.

I got two replies:

1. Yes

2. No, can't afford it.

That is crank HP for marketing, most dynos are showing around 120 stock

I used your info on HP,used middle figures of 120 on 600's and 130 on 848, and used AMA pro racing website for weight.

4 cylinder 360 lbs divided by 120 hp = 3

2 cylinder 380 lbs divided by 130 = 2.9 rounded down.

Lex, that is a good question, it was said during the Buell controversy that the 600's never could get down to 360 pounds with the equipment allowed, im sure that is probably still true today

After race two, the AMA required Benny to tear down the motor to inspect the cams. Turns out, this was because of a second protest, the first one being in race one. Both inspections passed standards. Benny's team requested to know where the protest originated from, however, the AMA is refusing to give that information. When the same team issues a protest, if inspection passes standard, then the protesting team is required to pay for expense incurred in breaking down the bike. Stay tuned, I'm sure something will probably be mentioned somewhere later.

congrats to you and Benny on the great weekend Jum

I noticed Schwantz mentioned him in his last article on soup and I thought that was pretty cool. Has Benny worked with Kevin at all?

Benny is the 2008 American Red Bull Rookies Cup champ, which was under the direction of Kevin Schwantz. Mr. Schwantz is always looking for new up and coming talent and likes to mentor young kids. He did so with John Hopkins, Ben Spies, Blake Young, and several other riders. Benny has got his attention. You will hear about this later next month, but after the AMA Wisconsin round, Benny will make an appearance with Mr. Schwantz at a grand opening. I'll post new about it when it happens.

If you want to know more about Benny, check out his web site, bennysolis.com

Whatever team protested had better save thier money in the future...that Honda is fast because of the guy sitting on it, if you got Schwantz singing your praises you don't need to cheat to kick everyone's ...!
