Lex, This was on twitter the other day. Will be crazy if he cant find a ride.

Cycle News @CycleNews

Talked to a very fit and motivated Tommy Hayden today. He still has no ride. If someone can't make a race, he needs to be on speed dial.

In todays Cycle News Mat Mladin mentions he had a deal in his hand to race AMA in 2012 but decided not to. I wonder if this frees up a seat or if the "deal" was just in the early stages.

I seriously doubt this. I'd go with a guy trying to make a headline in an attempt to make himself relevant.

Back to that story and vid on Benny. Thanks Pov and Jum for bringing it up as i dont keep tabs on any wera races. I agree that looked like a bad move from the kid on the inside and both of them are lucky they are OK. I cant say i didn't have a big smile on my face when i was watching it though. Such a Ballsy move on Bennys part to hang in there on the outside as long as he did with that much contact. Not sure if he could have backed off if he wanted to but i loved the attitude of the whole thing. Looking forward to rooting for him this year in sportbike.

I don't doubt it. The guy is an institution in AMA racing, and he has connections in the industry b/c he owns a bike distributorship in Oz. For all we know, M1 and DMG could be chucking a bit of money his way to get him back into the series. Not saying it's true, but false rumors generally work best if they are somewhat believable. This rumor is believable, imo.

The AMA has gotten to this state b/c the manufacturers didn't run it properly, but it has remained in its current state b/c DMG have done a really poor job structuring and sanctioning the sport. I don't know all of the gruesome details of the backroom deals, but DMG come across as being only marginally more intelligent than the manufacturers, which isn't good enough b/c DMG don't have tens of millions to dump into the AMA to make it look pretty.

My point, is that people with business-savvy can see how easily the AMA could recover. I don't know for sure, but Mladin strikes me as the kind of person who would see the potential.

Agree. On track days when a rider comes within 2 feet of me my ... tightens up harder than concrete.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 23, 2012) – RMR (Richie Morris Racing) announced today that the team will not participate in the 2012 AMA Pro Road Racing season. The highly-successful team fielded riders that captured two Daytona SportBike championships and two XR1200 championships over the last three seasons of competition. RMR has decided to take a year to focus their efforts on building upon the already strong foundation for competition in the 2013 AMA Pro Road Racing season.

“It is tough to win two championships in 2011 and not race in 2012,” Richie Morris, team owner of Richie Morris Racing explained. “We are disappointed to not run in AMA Pro this year because we love the series and love to race. Our plan was to run the Rossmeyer/RMR XR1200 team, the XR1200 rental program, and work on securing sponsorship for the Daytona SportBike class. However, in February we decided that it would be difficult to race at our standards and we did not want to make the mistake of fielding an unprepared or underfunded team. Such a move would not be beneficial for the team, its sponsors, or AMA Pro Racing.”

With a focus on 2013 and a resolve to return with the type of front-running talent that the prestigious team has long been known to recruit, RMR will now have the proper amount of time to prepare an attractive marketing opportunity for in- and out-of-industry sponsors.

"We support Richie's decision," said Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe. "We have been Richie Morris fans and sponsors for a long time and agree it’s the best overall move for the team to concentrate on 2013. We will attend some of the races this season and it’s still possible you will see a Rossmeyer/RMR Harley-Davidson at Indy this summer."

The team won on the inaugural AMA Pro Road Racing event weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the series debuted at the historic venue last season.

"I am aware of the hurdles which arose for Richie and the RMR team as they prepared to mount the kind of 2012 competitive effort for which they are known and respected in our paddock,” said David Atlas, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. “For years now, RMR has had a prominent competitive and visual presence in our series, and with its champion athletes, it has brought much valuable excitement to AMA Pro Road Racing. Richie's absence in 2012 will be a loss for us, but we eagerly await the return of RMR, Shelly and their other fine sponsors, as quickly as they can assemble the top level constituents consistent with their prior winning track record.”

Richie Morris Racing would like to thank the sponsors, talented riders, and crew members who have made all of the RMR success possible!

“The potential sponsors that we have interested in the 2013 season are really exciting,” Morris continued. “We have always been an advocate of attracting out-of-the-industry sponsors to our sport and look forward to working with some of them in 2013. We want to give a big thank you to AMA Pro Racing, David Atlas and his staff for their endless hard work. We feel that we will have a marketable product that is fun to watch and follow, we just have to work harder and smarter to be ready for 2013!”

RMR lost Danny Eslick and Geico. I'm not really sure what they are doing in the AMA paddock now that Buell are gone b/c RMR don't have technicians for other brands. John Ulrich's outfit was tuning Danny's bike so it was only natural that Geico would support Cardenas on JU's team when Eslick decided to move on to SBK.

Imo, it would have been much more clever to have RMR and Eslick jump into SBK, and Cardenas to go back down to DSB. Unfortunately, no deal was done, probably b/c Geico wanted nothing to do with it. Eslick went to EBR who just landed a big deal with motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp.

The gain of Hero MotoCorp is outweighs the loss of RMR, though it is unfortunate they won't participate. Just think about what might happen if Hero MotoCorp makes a bid for Buell. It's not a direct competitor to Harley so unless Harley just want to kick EB in the nuts, they might sell. A bike manufactured in India will undercut the European and Japanese by thousands of dollars, but the consumers will see the Buell brand rather than an unknown Indian name. India is an important market for Harley, and they have a manufacturing facility there. Selling Buell to hero might give them the political leverage they need to grease the wheels of commerce in India.

Zemke is riding DucShop Ducati 848 Evo in Daytona Sportbike. Good to hear.

DSB is just going to be ........ this year. The talent from 1-10+ is freakish. I'm glad he got picked up, he really is one of the nice guys of the paddock. Never seen him without a smile.

Rapp picked up to run at Daytona SBK. If the ZX10 Wsbk is any indication of the new potential for Kawa, it should have a decent showing. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=47404

Speaking of nice guys, I'm a bit worried for Tommy.

DMG just cant help themselves. Once incompetent, i guess it becomes part of your dna. The old my way or the highway attitude is back and another revolt is brewing. They just dont seem like reasonable people

http://www.roadracin.../?article=47429

Read it yesterday. I think JU needs to be discrete. Back in the day when corrupt AMA officials were screwing with people, and sending Luddington on kamikaze missions (he probably loved), the fans needed to know what was going on. But now? I want to know when DMG is screwing up, but why would I care that AMA teams and DMG are having a war over a patch? Why would I be surprised? How is this any different than other sports?

Anyone remember fallout after Camier came up with the clever idea (or his sponsor) to put a sticker on his visor during the after-race press conference?

Everyone is always crying about sponsorship.

The problem at hand is DMG's amatuerish lack of getting seasons planned. Its always down to the last minute on sponsors, schedules, regs, whatever. How in the hell are you supposed to prep a race team for a season, when you dont even know when or what the rules are going to be. DMG is making promises to their corporate sponsors, that are contradictory to promises made by teams to their sponsors. And they wonder why its so difficult to attract sponsorship. iDIOTS. The teams are more professional than the series itself. JU is speaking out because the childish retribution games have commenced again, and he is going to put up with it. DMG might think they have these teams over a barrel, but all it would take is for them to quit showing up and they {DMG] are done. JU would be the leader of that exodus, i think more people in the series look to him for leadership, than the they do the heads of DMG.

All of this stuff is common in racing. Manufacturers fighting with sanctioning bodies. Teams fighting with manufacturers. Sponsors screwing people. It's just another day in the office.

Officials targeting participants based upon public comments......that was something special that can only come from NASCAR land. The poor officiating was worth publicizing. Power-politics in the marketing/sponsorship business is just another day in the office.
