Can we change the title of this thread to: What's going on with the AMA? (News about Cardenas will probably produce a very short thread).



Geico sponsorship switching teams within the same class is a result of some drama (no sure how much to say yet, but eventually it will come out).



The DSB class will be ultra competitive this year. The problem with SBK is, DMG and the factories have not made amends, so grid size will be anemic. The splitting up of Yosh Suzuki running a one man team with another pay to ride team is all you need to know about that class regarding the general cost to race and the support they are getting. DMG will continue to favor DSB promotion, SBK will be the step child. SBK will only have three competitive teams, Graves, Yosh Suz, and Jordan.



Btw, stay tuned, some news will soon come down the pike regarding Benny Solis' 2012 plans.
 
Yeah, I'm cool with changing the name. AMA: What's going on for 2012? How bout that?



Technically, Geico have changed teams, but after Buell went under, RMR couldn't run them anymore. They had to go to M4 to get tuning for the GSX-R600. Geico hasn't been officially M4, but it's not surprising GEICO would go with them.



If Benny is in DSB, will it be competitive?

I'm pretty confident SBK is the manufacturers rulebook b/c it doesn't have performance balancing. Literbike was the DMG version of Superbike, like DSB they balance the bikes rather than requiring a tuning standard to which everyone must modify. Performance balancing is cheaper and I'm sure they wanted to use it for literbike. I'd prefer no performance balancing b/c DMG aren't great at it (just look at the 848 before they detuned it), but I don't think it affects the competition as much in motorcycle racing.



If we lose proper SBK, I'm going to be pissed at the manufacturers. They cut costs, and they've got a rulebook similar to BSB. They pulled out to pressure DMG to ditch DSB, now it's going to backfire on us all.

Yoshi are putting a concerted effort into wsbk in 2012 by teaming up with Crescent Suzuki. They are running all the performance aspects of the team, whilst crescent are actually running the team.

Agree, but there's a bit of a problem with Eslick. He smokes, drinks, and sometimes acts too much like a kid. He's the guy I want to hang out with, but that isn't a good thing when trying to build a racing career. The dude is simply one of the best natural talents in the AMA, no doubt about it, but he may lack some maturity. He got in trouble this year at an event; I'm not sure how much went public, but suffice to say, some sponsors were not at all happy.

No word on Hopkins yet, that's starting to worry me.



Here in the States, Yosh supports American Suzuki in a big way. Benny will be supported by Yosh on the Vesrah Suzuki team. I hope we see a decent year out of him though he'll have a tall order. Daytona SportBike (DSB) is very competitive, and now with the former champ, Cardenas, returning to the class, with the riders who still comprise the grid (Herrin, West, Carmen, Wesby), it will be a big accomplishment if Benny breaks into the top 5. This kid Danny Eslick, who won the class last year was suppose to move up to Superbike, but there have now been some funding issues. The team he was on before have already stated they will not have him back saying 'he has accomplished everything he's needed to accomplish in the class.' But if things don't work out in terms of sponsorship, he will return to DSB as well. That possibility would make the DSB like a Moto2.

Great news for me.

Im glad there back in Homestead even if its another Nascar track. Im just happy we got a race South Florida has a ton of bikes on the street so lets hope that translates to good attendance figures



I didnt realize they built a track in New Orleans

Well good for you, but they still haven't worked out a deal for the largest motorcycle market in the country, SoCal. Fontana is an ugly mofo, but its better than noting. Can you believe my closest AMA round in Laguna, 5 hours away, and Infineon, 7 hours away.



New Orleans? Uhm, maybe they are confused with the drag track where all the stretched swingarms show up.



BTW, I'm 70/30, favor, on going to Daytona this year. CK is in. Now we just have to convince Levi to let us crash at his bach pad.

I went on Graves site and found no mention of this. Also no mention of what class Gerloff will be running. DSB or SS?

Herrin in DSB only. Gerloff the 2012 SS Champ.
