<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>I rencently had a chat with some foreigners at the bar a few days ago and I asked them about the image Americans have on the outside world. She said something along the lines of "You all are violent with your guns and you have be careful of getting robbed all the time.

That is a bad stereotype. In the movies people see cities like New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and all they ever show are the mafia or hoods where violence is exxagerated. I'm not going to say we do not have violence in those cities but it is way blown out of proportion. And it is not like that in every city of America. Then again, its not all dullsville like in Napoleon Dynamite, I think the only gun you see there is when a cow gets shot.

I'm not going to lie, there is a gun in my household for "protection" but I haven't seen it once since I moved to the states in the last 13 years.

I've to admit that my view on america isn't nice. the things I see and hear on the news and read in the papers are maybe coloured, but I find it hard to believe that that isn't true. woudn't say you all are violent and all thiefs though.

I can't imagine having a gun in the house, I have 'used' a gun one time during my gymclasses as an exercise and it scared the hell out of me

and NO I haven't shot at people

No worries mate, I just didn't understand what you said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion so doesn't bother me a bit.

And Marijke, I've never once used a gun nor do we have any in our house. I'm not sure what the conception is of Americans outside of the US regarding gun usage but I would say it is probably less than 50% of hoseholds own a gun.

I am originally from Puerto Rico and down there the violent reputation is true. A person will kill you over stealing your wallet. It doesn't help that my father was a police officer that saw all the .... happen himself.

Puerto Rico puts the cities like New York and LA to shame when it comes to gun violence. The reputation there really is true, people will fight you for stupid .....

it's amazing how these threads morph into something completely different. interesting tho.

Hey Teo, about the Catalan thing you were going on about earlier, If Sete is Catalan and the rest of Spain is icy towards those Catalans, therefore not as passionate about Catalan riders, can you explain why more than 100,000 Spainiards were screaming "HIJO DE PUTA!" after the incident at Jerez last year?
<

We've all seen Sete take a Spanish flag after winning a race, so it's clear on which side he is. And anyway what Rossi did was not nice independently of which nationality were both riders.

He said he lost about 30-40% of his spanish fans that day, I noticed you're not too fond of him, were you one of them fans? Or have you always disliked him?

I've never been a fan of Sete neither a basher, I tended to cheer for him sometimes, but I think this is the first year I really hope he wins races. I think the growing dislike for Rossi is making me cheer for the others now.

I don't think he lost any Spanish fans that day except the Rossi fanatics. I don't know why would someone stop supporting a rider that has been knocked out of contention in a not very nice manner. I think it was the other way round, Rossi lost many fans that day.

ive got to be honest when it happend i said OOOOOOPS but on a closer look i though it was just ok, its wen reall winners cum 2 the surfice.. but not sure if rossi would have liked it either..

I was the same way Winner, when it happened I couldn't believe Rossi would ride so carelessly and then I looked at it over and over and under the circumstances it wasn't as boundary crossing as first thought. In a racing situation it's hard to say anyone wouldn't do the same thing. And I'll agree with you, if it happened to Valentino I'm sure he wouldn't be very pleased.

Sorry, mate I was talking about Rossi. If I recall Sete wouldn't even talk about it. Rossi said he lost fans, not Gibbers.

i must disagree. if that move had of been made by anyone else, they would probably have been dissqualifyed. rossi could have avoided that, but would have lost. therefore being who he is, barged his way thru, punting gibbs off the track in the process. which, no doubt, made the victory sweeter for him. now if that would have been say... max pulling that move, do u thing he would have stood on the top box?

That's a good point, Frosty. It also ruined what could have been a great start to a great year for Sete.
I'm really torn on it. I mean yeah, it's racing, survival of the fittest, only winning matters, all that stuff, but I'm not a fan of dirty tactics.
