MotoGP After the Flag reported that Bastianini said to Italian media "The KTM does not suit my riding style" and they said it's going to be a long season for him. Vinales doesn't sound much happier, saying they need time.

About what I expected from those two.

Enea didn't really have much in the way of options for seats, but Maverick leaving Aprilia was a bone-headed decision as far as I am concerned.

Enea will be in WSBK in two seasons, maybe even one. Maverick will retire and be a family man.

Enea was pushed with Marc taking his seat, Aldeguer promoted and Morbidelli rescued by Valentino. So him landing another factory contract was most likely the best option.

Viñales being in his tenth season in MotoGP probably wanted to be the main protagonist in a factory team's storyline. For the first and only time. Then Aprilia got hold of a World Champion. I understand why he had a mental breakdown, and jumped ship. Add that his bike has been nearing the Japanese bikes and not the other Italian brand for the last year, another factory contract with probably a better financial deal, isn't a bad call. These lads have big egos, and they are not prepared to be the wingman for their entire stint in the top class, if they can win races.

I remember Pecco saying the GP25 was a big improvement in the Barcelona tests, and now they're gonna be stuck with the GP24 engine instead. Wonder what happened during that time.
They did some tests in Malaysia and Thailand that didn't replicate some of the results in cold post-season Spain?

A shame the factories are so tight lipped about these issues.

Arguably factory Yamaha's lead rider in 2019 and 2020, though outshone by Quatrararo on the satelite in 2020. To me it was inevitable that Vinales would not be world champion, and find a way to blame everyone but himself. No surprise he switched teams (again). He's had a tough run, he's been sabotaged by every team he's been on! 😂

In both 19 and 20, he was sat next to Valentino.

You can say what you want about Vale's tactics and results, yet being in the same team as him, Viñales wasn't the main rider and he knew it.

As soon as Valentino left the team, Quartararo won the championship, adding further damage to the frail Maverick's ego.

Enea had an option with Aprilia for a long time IIRC. He knew he wasnt going to be at Ducati for 2025 but for whatever reason waited. Once Martin became available Aprilia snatched him up and then seemed to favour Bezzechi. But Tech 3 wasn;t his only factory option.

Can't disagree, his ego has been his downfall more often than not.

Apparently, Bagnaia wanted to run the 25 chassis for the remainder of 2024 after the misano test but Ducati wouldn't let him.

Yeah, Fabio coming in and winning the championship in 2021 was the nail in the coffin. But in typical Vinales fashion, he fell upwards into a factory Aprilia ride!

KTM said after the Zarco fiasco that they would prioritise developing talent. Maybe now they have Acosta they don't care about other riders results and just want their experience of other manufacturers?

It’s ok for Maverick to have an ego but his problem is in living up to it once in a while.

I mean last year in Austin he lived up to it alright. The problem is not with living up to it once in a while, it's a consistency or lack thereof. Maverick is talented but his operating window as a rider is so tight that sometimes you simply start to question his commitment because there's no valid explanation why the dude is a rocket one weekend and absolute ....... a week later.

Exactly, he utterly dominated COTA, in Marc Marquez fashion. However, the next race he finished 9th and was only in the top 6 again THREE times for the remainder of the season. Some of that can be attributed to him not getting updates later in the yr if he was moving, but it is doubtful Aleix Espargaro did either.

My issue with riders like Vinales, is they continually underperform and yet are given countless opportunities. Raul Fernandez is another one, as is arguably Jack Miller.

He unquestionably has the talent that’s what we all find so frustrating and also why he gets another chance. The next manufacturer thinks or hopes they have the magic key that will unlock his potential. But he seems to have far too many ducks to get aligned for it to happen.
He himself is probably suffering in the knowledge that it’s a mental issue that he can’t rectify unfortunately. His performance at COTA would have inspired confidence in another person to go forward and achieve but sadly he’s not wired like that.

KTM has selected their rides based on podiums and Vinales has a race win in 2024, the only race win that wasn't on a Ducati. Preseason Vinales and Bastainini have struggled to adapt to the KTM however Vinales seems to of found something right at the end of testing

Cheers, didn't know that Enea had the choice of switching to Aprilia for a long time. I can see why he would want to remain at Ducati Corse for both seasons of his contract. He should have the belief that he can come good and win the championship when sat on the only bike capable of just that. Unfortunately for him, it never came to fruition.

With KTM, they might have wanted to change their short term tactics, to reach their long term goal, quicker.
The bike is fast enough to fight the Ducatis, and now they need it to bring that power into the rubber. Newbies cannot help them as much as seasoned riders. With Viñales and Enea, they now have some knowledge of all the brands that have developed good bike in the last 5 - 6 seasons. So with the engine development not an option, they can focus on all other aspects. The first part of the season is likely to be very important for them, both so they can keep the company going and Acosta.

I am concerned and curious about Martin’s hand injuries. I am surprised we haven’t heard from Martin himself, unless I missed it. I wonder if there is more to this story. Hand injuries have ended more than one career in motorcycle racing.
