My thought precisely. Absolutely he does. He isn’t winning multiple further titles if he keeps doing this. Iirc he previously sustained a significant shoulder injury in off track training as well. He has been showing signs of being able to hold it together in races as was his previous wont but he can’t keep doing this kind of thing in training and practice; he just isn’t 21 anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have seen the last of Marquez in 2021.

Take the rest and arrive fresh and as near 100% for the first test on the 2022 bike.

In his defence it seems nearly every rider gets hurt doing off-road training for GP racing.

A lot of riders have unfinished business. Not all of them are equipped to deal with it. Especially if they fall down a lot.

With his arm break completely healed a while ago and a lot of the season under his belt, we should have seen the “real” Marquez by now.

I have the feeling we may not see that Marquez again. Not to say he won’t win races and titles, that’s still possible.

I think you may be underestimating just how long the recovery will be given all the complications but he is certainly getting close. The bike managed to get worse in his absence as well so that was a hindrance to his return. It's easy to forget that he was still ruled out at the beginning of this year. 6 months in sport is a long time but in recovery from a career threatening injury due to complications etc. it really isn't all that long. Unfortunately for all of us humans it takes longer to build up muscle and fitness etc after an injury than it does to lose it. He's still won more races than everyone bar Fabio at this stage of the calendar and really should have won in France (I think) if not for a stupid mistake.
On the current projection of his improvement he should be in with a good chance next year. As long as Honda improves I dare say he would be the favourite.

Whether he will return to the complete dominance he showed before as you have said is in all likelihood not going to happen. I have a hard time saying it won't because the rules were such from 2016 that no one was supposed to be able to dominate the field. But that still happened. He dominated like the greats before him without most if not all of the mechanical advantages they had. I would be shocked if he doesn't win at least one more title, I wouldn't be shocked if he went on a run of consecutive titles. I would be surprised if he was able to dominate like he did in 2019 again though.

The MotoGP boys (Matt Birt & Steve Day) were talking about if there isn't more to the story of Marc's training accident / slight concussion. They said there is word going around Marc may miss Valencia as well.


On another note, they put a shoulder cam on Rins' left shoulder. It gets really amazing footage.

Nah... not really. You spend that much time testing and doing practice sessions, you'd get the hang of it, not all at once mind you, but over time.

Did anyone notice the monstrosity on the shoulder of one of the Ducati tech guys. It looked like the red army had been recruiting from a Borg cube…

No doubt Fabs is back on his heels, despite just having won the championship. His Miller like display of displeasure in the box also not inspiring.

He wouldn’t make a good poker player right now and he needs to develop that not so overtly devious attitude of “aw shucks” that MM and Bags have in spades.

I like him a lot and sometimes I forget that he is 21 (?)
But if his results are adult then he should be able to be one in other ways as well.

5 straight unanswered poles from Bagnaia and some victories among them in the second half of the season. Quartararo did most of the work in the first half.

He and Yamaha best come up with some answers for next season.
