Good morning all.

New to the site. Lots of good stuff and have many hours catching up.

Do have a question about the GP Red Bull race at Indy.

Does anyone know of an iPhone app that I can listen to the race? Is the a radio tuner app that will get one of the local channels that broadcast the race?

Years past I have just listened to the loudspeakers the best I could, but is hard at times with the noise.

Thanks.

Welcome WV.

I know there are a number of members who are going to the event this year and years gone by who can asnwer your question and should be along shortly.

i'm going to indy too! but it's my first time at indy...there's a group of guys on here that are pretty knowledgeable about indy though & hopefully will chime in soon to give you an answer.

I don't know of any radio stations that broadcast the race. If you have videopass theoretically you could turn it on and listen to the commentary, but that will eat data like crazy. I wish the live experience app (I don't have) had a commentary feature.

Indy sucks. Don't go. That's my advice.

No really, the track sucks, but the people are nice. See you there.

Jumkie, why do you think the track sucks? The actual racing or the viewing?

Both. The track itself is contrived trom the oval. No elevation changes. The viewing sucks because there's a bunch of buildings in between.

However, if u get paddock access, its second to none. And there is a museum of the place on site. The party in downtown is also excellent.

This is my third year going. We stay downtown, which is always fun.

Yes, the view is poor. We always sit on the grassy knoll by the golf course. Can see those S turns and that is about it. One reason why I was hoping to find a station to listen to the race.

Thanks.

This isn't IndyCar where I can get an app and follow all the ontrack action. At Laguna there is a radio broadcast of the track announcer, I would think Indy does the same since Dorna decided in their infinite wisdom to go with Indy over Laguna (perhaps one of the greatest 'viewer' circuit.) I would call Indy itself and see if they can give u info. There is a Dumbotron on the grass around turn 9, but to watch it properly, u need to be on the opposite side of the track, which is stupid because it negates the purpose of lounging on the grass. My recommendation is get grandstand tix near turn one. You'll see the straight and the T1.2.3-5 sequence and watch them disappear into the infield. The best action race wise T12-16. And u can either watch from those grandstand which will allow u to see them come on to the straight or on the floor level along the fense (where they will disappear from view at 16, and no big screens to know what just happened). The viewing sux man, but walk around get ur fix Friday and Saturday, then watch from grandstand on the straight Sunday. If u want a better view of that last section, get suite tix, u can watch from on top of the building. $450 though for weekend, 300 for Sunday. Not cheap but u get paddock. uploadfromtaptalk1438094362155.jpg

MotoGP needs to go back to Laguna.

IMS's road course blows in every iteration they've had it.

It goes down as another brilliant Tony George idea.

Laguna lacks pit boxes for motogp, 2 ,3.
No big airport nearby, crappy for logistics.
Indy attracts a bigger crowd.

How important is crowd to Dorna? Think Qatar. Indy is ugly, characterless, the track sucks for the riders AND the fans. If it "attracts" a slightly larger crowd then its by default because its in the middle of a metropolis, regardless the place always looks pathetically empty. Make no mistake my friend, Indy exists on the GP calendar solely because they got suckered into paying the Dorna extortion fee.

It's all politics and so it's never that simple compa...

As I understand it SCRAMP were unwilling to do this. And yet, over here the BRDC with substantially more funding and resources were happy to write the cheques but lost out to MSV and a circuit that only exists on a CAD blueprint and Jonathan Palmer's boardroom agenda.

But you will still be going, right?

So seems the scam works....even on you....

Compare PI with Eastern Creek.
Looong drive from Tulla to PI.
But there are Penguins...and a marsupial park.
But the sole pub burnt down.

I would think the main reason Indy draws the crowd is because it is in the center of the country. I know I could never afford to go to Laguna, but I can drive go Indy (6 hours)

On the flipside, I would imagine there are more fans of "foreign" race series living on the coasts than there are in the Midwest.

I always regarded Road Atlanta as one of the best bike circuits in the States. COTA put paid to Barber, which was a shame, but .......I miss Laguna. Beautiful part of the planet.

Yet it didn't stop them from going to Laguna for almost a decade, and with the 500cc's from 88 to 94.

Pit boxes lol.

Real men work on bikes wherever there is space. ....... girls now.

You know, I have to say on a tangent that I ....... despise the BRDC.

I hope Derek Warwick dies in a fire along with the rest of his buddies.

Primarily because Silverstone's financial woes are all of their own doing since they felt it was pertinent to negotiate at losing rates with a known extortionist/used car salesman, all because of some belief the world would sink into a black hole if the British round of the F1 World Championship ceased to exist.
