Lets try again with this thread shall we?What would you like to see when the 125 class dissapears (though that itself is debatable if we get clean 2 stokes). After much thought I`d like a 450 to 500cc single or twin class but it could go the way of MX and be a 250 single or perhaps again a twin. Please feel free to voice your opinion.

Ever ridden an Aprilia SVX 450 or 550?

Put that v twin in a GP (125) frame and let em rip.

More fun than a weekend away with miss World

keep it simple - 450 or 500cc single - 4 stroke naturally

the cheapest replacement for the cheapest 2T motor would have to be a single. 250 or 300cc would do the trick. i would prefer twins to be allowed but that will just push up costs and alienate the privateer teams which are needed to bulk out the lower classes. IMO the best solution is to bump up the displacement to 175cc for the tiddlers and let them stay 2T.

Not at all bro,its something I`m feeling passionate about and looking forward to.We have the dawning of a new era in MGP ,albeit spread over a coupla years.

Not sure on the 175cc,I could be wrong but joe public will want a capacity they can relate to ,but saying that, it is a prototype class so maybe it has a chance.

That was supposed to by the 250 replacement. A great idea he did have for that. Use dirt bike frames, and engines and build a road racing bike around it. Very cost effective, and could allow for nearly every motorcycle manufacturer to have the capacity to race.

One the 175cc idea. The 800's are completely awkward bikes. You have the 750's that Suzuki build, and the 848's that Ducati build. Otherwise no other bikes on the market are comparable.

It you do move to the new displacement rules, you should stop calling them by their displacement. Call this class Moto3, or something like that. Like how motocross has become. You have MX1, MX2, MX2 in Europe and You have the Supercross/Motocross and the Lites are the smaller bikes.

Uhm, Honda VFR800 ring any bells?

The 4-S replacement for a 2-S 125cc engine--maintaining the same power output, and the possibility to fit it in existing 125cc frames--would be a 200cc single. Prototype, of course... Not derived from stock.
<

Not so difficult, just rip off one cylinder-head unit from any MotoGP engine design, re-cast and re-tune it, mount it on a custom cranckcase and gearbox and there you are. No need to design or test any key component from scratch.

Same way, it would have been possible to create 400cc 4-S twins to replace the 250. Keeping the same frames...
<

But, we know what they're doing to 250's so there are practically no hopes they will behave reasonably for 125's replacement.
<

They could even leave the 125 class as it is, and let it evolve--let's hope. It could remain as the seed for the return of the new generation of 2-Strokers in the future...

Have you ever ridden a RS125 GP bike?

I don't see the need to substitute 125cc. IMO it does it's job very well and has done it since 1949. I guess they will substitute them with 250/450cc single cylinder.
