Yamaha Factory Racing has made the decision to re-schedule the planned Mugello 1000cc test for the 2012 bike.

To allow for further time for the development of the bike the decision has been made to postpone the test to a later date.

The new plan foresees Yamaha’s 2012 1000cc prototype tested by Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies following the Czech Republic round of the MotoGP World Championship at the Brno circuit.

no sponsor and playing second fiddle to honda since begin of season.

Ben at Assen being their only true 1st place this year without Stoner having been wiped out

maybe they aren't so sure about where they're heading.

Not worried, if Lorenzo is further eliminated from the championship, Yamaha can just sleeve a 1000cc and call it the M1.1, and use the rest of the season to test away.

Probably want to leave Ducati guessing. Without any of the big dogs to compare times with, they might think the Ducati feels good and find out later they are still 2 seconds behind. Now you have a Mugello test next week that doesnt include any of the major players. I think there is some head games being played.

Just like all teams except Honda they must surely be worried about 2012.

Gives them some time to persuade Furusawa to come back!

Then again, I'd conjecture the powerplant is just what Yam really need to develop - their handling has been mostly the best around since at least 2008. Lollo's chances of keeping his # monogram are ImO low to extremely low unless something bad happens to Stoner

I'd bet dev work on the Duc 2012 will now focus on useable power and mods to their 11.1.46 chassis. Honda will just pour in the $'s anyway.

Just to clear up any confusion, the chassis of the GP12 (the one currently being used by Rossi in the 11.1) was being designed by Preziosi before Rossi confirmed he had signed with Ducati at Brno. Rossi's input on the chassis only started at the Jerez 1000cc test in April.

I don't think they have to sleeve it b/c they aren't changing bore. Yam would destroke with a short throw crank and use longer rods. Increasing the rod-length-to-stroke ratio should reduce engine wear. Imo, this is why Rossi was able to change to the 11.1 so early even though he has already used three engines in his allocation. By using the GP11.1.46 so early, they are using just 3 engines for 12 races (if Japan happens) which is 33% farther than an engine is normally required to go. Hayden has used 4 engines, and he will get the GP 11.1 at Laguna with 9 rounds on just 2 engines.

If Yamaha can achieve longer life without sacrificing too much performance from an M1.1 engine, they can turn up the wick on the current engines and take some risks. No reason to waste time at Mugello, put the M1.1 on the test track right now with the test riders.

I wonder how much longer Ducati lets him design their bikes, not saying he isn't any good but he doesn't exactly have a good record going. Do you have any clue if VR, JB, and crew have any confidence in him. All we hear is VR continuing to ask for parts and being critical along with JB on the differences in the Japanese bikes to the Duc.
