Actually, you're absolutely right, I totally missed putting in Fabi. (WTF was I thinking bout?) Yeah, he will be up there. I was thinking about how hard he raced Haga the other day as I watched a few 09 races. The dude is hungry and isn't afraid to bang fairings with whoever, including his teammate. Yes, he will be a contender!

I've never been much of a Toseland fan per se, but I'd really like to see him run well. I think it's going to take time but I hope he's able to sort it out.

Me too. I like the guy, and personally I think his MotoGP career was cut short by circumstance. I just saw the 08 Qatar race last night. The dude was nails battling with Lorenzo and Rossi. I'm thinking he will be fine but he didn't look that great in round one (though he finished respectable). Keep in mind, Toes has never been dominant, not even in his two titles, which came down to the last race and barely edged out runner up in points.

How excited are you about WSBK this year? Will you be able to maintain interest now that Ben Spies is out?

I'm still very excited about WSBK, perhaps more than I was last season. Probably more equal parts excitement, but differing kinds of excitement.

Last year it was all about whether or not Spies would be able to do it. Could he learn the tracks and bike and tires and team fast enough? Then it was could he take it to Haga? Then it was could he make up all the points he lost through crashes and mechanicals? Then it was could he survive the wild challenges from Rea, Fabrizio and Biaggi? And he did it. But, for me anyways, I found the 2009 season too focused on one man.

Although 2010 appears to lack that super-special talent like Spies, I don't think there's ever been a deeper field with as many potential champions. On any given weekend you could choose any of the following riders for a win and you wouldn't be half wrong: Haga, Fabrizio, Rea, Neukirchner, Haslam, Toseland, Crutchlow, Checa, Shakey, Biaggi, or even Smrz, Camier or Guintoli as long shots. The depth of field is astounding, I've only been following the sport for a decade but I've never seen a grid this deep.

R Hayden is not last!

I never thought Toseland would get his head straight after having another confidence-busting start at PI, but he appears to be unshaken. I have a sneaky suspicion that Yamaha's updates, are anything but updates, but I'm glad to see they've got something for this weekend.

What would we do without WSBK? GP has been a terribly boring fuel-economy contest for 3 years now, but WSBK continues to deliver the goods week-in and week-out. Weather looks great, let's hope we see some intense racing.

Great work by Chaz and Jason. It would be interesting to see what Chaz could do if he was still on a Kwak.

Too bad R Hayden wasn't able to land a WSS ride with Kawasaki. Like his brother Tommy, he's magic on the smaller displacement motorcycles.

Im guessing there will be big changes since there is still a couple of seconds that have to be chopped off compared to last years times. I still feel pretty good about my picks.

Completely agree with you Austin. Last year was bittersweet for me, being a big fan of Haga and seeing him finish runner up again. The season was made good by watching Spies put on a very memorable performance all year. The comeback and final showdown at seasons end made for some of the best moto racing drama we've had in years. This year certainly looks to have more parity between bikes/riders and as you say some of the best depth of any moto series we have seen.

Things not looking good for Vermi, but then again he decided to sign up for the big green career killer. The Kwaker sure isn't helping Sykes out either.

From everything I can gather, the 2010 season means very little to Kawasaki in WSBK. Their long bang motor and all new ZX-10R won't debut until next year. I believe Yoda has a firm grasp on the development of the 2011 bike, and it's the 2011 bike that got Vermeulen excited about the project. As far as I'm concerned, 2010 is a write off for Kawi and I think there are probably similar sentiments within their garage.

For me - it'll take a little time for the excitement to build. It's so
all wide open - and really as much as I like Haga - I think he's past
his due date - so I don't want to get my hopes up.
