All Left to Play For

If there's anything that you need to know about Jonathan Rea's season so far, it is simply this: He as just set the record for the most consecutive podium finishes from the start of the season. If he continues to form then in Qatar he will beat the standing record for overall consecutive podium finishes, previously set by WSBK and MotoGP ex-pat Colin Edwards. After so many years under the Honda umbrella, speculation was rife that Rea would excel aboard Kawasaki; but few hinted that he would be so overwhelmingly dominant. And, quite frankly, there are precious few other words in the English language to describe what Rea has been. There are 6 races left on the calendar with 150 points still in play. If Rea scores only 6 of those 150 points (a finish of only top 10 for the man who has never been off the podium in 20 consecutive starts) he will become the first Irish champion in WSBK history. The only question for the weekend would seem to be whether Rea will fight for the win or play it safe to secure the championship.

Prediction: Rea walks onto the field in an all white suit, with a white flag waving. He gets off the bike and pushes it briskly off line and around the track to signal his intent to stay the heck out of everyone's way. Somehow, to the disgust of the rest of the field, he manages a top 5 finish to clinch the title in race 1. Then he rubs it in by winning race 2.

Congratulations to Johnny on an emphatic title year. Love the Joey tribute. Surprisingly large crowd at Jerez today...a tad confused by the 'stand up for the Ulsterman' chant perhaps.

I think if he can win Race2 then he matches Polen's race win tally for a season.

Another great ride from Chaz.

Great scenes.

What if you won a World Championship and no one noticed or cared. Its sad what WSBK has become. I can honestly say i didnt find the time or the want to see a single round this year.
