(Hey Lex, valve job every 6K at $1K a pop.)
Which is exactly why my Bro-in-law lent me this thing:
for a few months last May.
All I have to do is change the belts and check/adjust the valves. He provides all the parts, I do the work and then play with it for a while. Easiest thing in the world to change the belts on too
except they have to be tuned like a guitar string .... ie. the tension is checked by the frequency of vibration
.... sounds wacko ...... but its pretty brilliant, and easy, really
Wow, I'm impressed...Quite a few motorheads in here
Jumkie, I am duly impressed. That is a nice collection of metal you've got there...
Bootsakah, I love my FZ6 more than any other bike I've ridden. There are actually quite a few options for after-market exhaust, and it's highly recommended that you replace the stock pipes. They sound like dual kitties purring...kinda sad really
Other than that I have no complaints about the FZ6. It rides fast and smooth. I can ride it all day long and never have any problems.
Well thanks for showing off your sweet rides everyone!

Oh and for anyone across the pond what does getting a license in America consist of?Do you have any restriction on what you can ride once youve passed?

In california its the stupidest test ever at first you have to pass the written test which consist of pretty much common sense questions for any bike over 250cc's which is called an m1( the one for mopeds and motorized bicycles is a class m which i dont know what it consist of) once you pass the writen you get a permit good for a year which means you cant ride at night or on the freeways. once your ready for the test (from my experience ) you take the driven part in which a person supervises (presumibly government hired people who have never ridden a bike) they have two straight lines painted on the floor which go out like 20 yards then they curve into a small half circle and come back out to 20 yard straight lines(c=) to pass the test you have to stay in between the 2 lines at a speed no higher than 10 mph without putting your foot down or falling down if you do that you pass. I failed miserably because i was driving a suzuki gsxr 600 even the man supervising told me almost every person on a sport bike fails. Another option is to take a class run by an organization called the Motorcycle saftey foundation or MSF in which they instruct you on shifting braking and all the basics then you do the same test but they provide the motorcycles always tiny 250 cruisers or enduros, so mostly everybody passes. Since failing the test i have not tried again in a few days it will be three years ive owned my bike and i have put 23000 miles on it with out being penalized for a moving violation or getting in an accident. So F#$K the California Department of Motor Vehicles if they think i am not capable of riding a motorcycle. I am going to take the stupid class which cost about $200.00 and has a month long waiting list. The class is pointless it doesnt provide the skills necesery to ride a sport bike, theyre have been people who go out a week later and kill themselves but hey they died with a license. The government has to come up with a test specifically for sport bikes or just say ride at your own risk!

Thats dumb isnt it?So as long as your slow speed control is good even though you cant negotiate junctions or have even the slightest roadsense you can have what you want!So when you get into a situation on your favourite twisties or when a car pulls out in front of you your test taught you nothing of any help to you
. In the practical test here you have to do a u-turn and emergency stop theres no specific slow ride excercise unless you havent had the oppurtunity to show you can control the bike at slow speed when your riding round during the test. But for the majority of the test your riding on the road for 35-45 mins and have to do so without making any "major" faults (missing a shoulder check or even dabbing a foot on the u-turn can you believe)cant believe how much harder the test is in the UK.I imagine i'd struggle to do a u-turn on GSXR600 though mate
