i you were to try and convince someone to watch a bike race because it was exciting and spectacular etc. etc. which series would you suggest?
WSB/WSS wins this hands down, no contest..

Good point there, superbike is the series appealing to those who know and understand less about the sport, the casual observer rather than the hardcore. It has bigger grids and closer racing. For me however it falls short in every other area. The bikes are less interesting and less exciting to watch, the riders are not as good and there are less characters, but most importantly there is so little spectacle i don't care too much who wins

You are a ....... ........ Understand less? Obviously the one with the least understanding is you...
Ill give you the bikes are more "interesting" in GP ...but if you want to see interesting bikes go to a motorsports museum..... SBK less exciting to watch?
<
...son if this were the 500s or the 990s i'd totally agree with you...but the 800 are about as fun to watch as a pimple growth... get a clue.

Besides Tom got one thing right, The spectacle make all the difference and anyone can relate to that. If not for anything else the sound of the MotoGP bikes make them a world appart form anything else.

The 800s sound like .......cept the Duc...The 990s were SO much better...i remember waking up at La Guna in 05 to the sound of the RC211V... just "blipping" the throttle gave me a boner.

The only problem is that notwithstanding all this you fairly obviously going by your posts care much more about motogp than wsbk. No question the races have been closer in wsbk the last 2 years, but who cares who wins the minor leagues? You guys watch too much nascar, which undoubtedly involves considerable skill, but where close finishes seem to be contrived if necessary.

I keep hearing people talk about the MotoGP "spectacle", what exactly is said spectacle and why does it make MotoGP better? Is the spectacle the crowd of fans at the races, more tents and booths, better beer, more hotdog vendors, more umbrella girls? Or are you talking about the paddock spectacle or the on track racing spectacle?

What saves MotoGP for me is the 125 and 250 racing, which is almost always outstanding. However the MotoGP class, as I said this before in another post, the last few years has been racing blue balls, all the build up and a serious let down come race day. All of this business of which is "better" depends on how you are defining the word, but everyone has their reasons for preferring one or the other. Myself I watch because of the racing, the on track action, the passing. WSBK on top of having great start to finish racing most of the time, has two races per weekend, hard to beat for the race fan. I want more then anything for MotoGP to prove me wrong, to show up WSBK and have at least as good of racing as 2006 with the 990's. I will always follow MotoGP, it is the pinnacle of moto racing, but the way things have been lately, I know come Sunday not to expect an exciting race.

I used to go up to the Motocross nationals every year at Washougal Washington, your story reminds me of the cold misty mornings, waking up in my tent to the sound of 250's being blipped in the morning.
