But I don't think Ben is going to start slow at all. If the tech 3 bike is good he will get the results. My concern is all the talk from Rossi and Edwards about how the bike has been detuned. Spies is not a small man when compared to other riders.

I HOPE Spies starts delivering from the first round. But I'de like to give the man the benefit of the doubt that if he does mess up at first he will significantly get better race after race. Got my fingers crossed and am praying 2010 will be a great year in MotoGP and can't wait to see what Spies has to offer. The only thing that held him back this year was bad luck. 13 wins for a rookie says it all ( But please stop at 14

this year). As much as I have grown to love Spies, I will remain loyal to Haga until he retires

. Come MotoGP next year, I'm all for Spies!! The man is focused and has what it takes to be a champion. Best of luck Ben.

If i am a crew chief for a sattelite team with no chance at wins or podiums,i dont detune my bikes and let the chips fall where they may. Who knows, you might just get lucky.Who gives a .... if you get a point penalty.Spectacular engine eruptions will get you the same amount of TV time as running in 8th place, maybe more.Tune them to be fast and hope for the best.If it blows, take the penalty and get another one.

Who was the last person that was of average size like Marco that rode for Honda? And how long ago was that? The HRC seat is not going to matter for at least the first half of the season.

IMO there is only one man to stand in the way of Ben getting the rookie title and that is Rossi. The two are already close and Vale already advises Marco. What can Ben do to counter? Dial #34

I voted for Simoncelli, NOT because I think he's better than Spies, but simply because he knows the tracks inside and out.

Which is another reason why the 250 guys do better than the rare superbikers that are promoted to MotoGP.

Spies is a freak. Simoncelli has the track knowledge advantage but Spies's talent and ability to adapt and learn quickly is unmatched in this rookie class. Spies in a close one.

^ This.

Not knowing most of the WSB tracks hasn't held him back. Plus I can see Simoncelli being really quick, but just crashing a bit too much. Really hope he'll prove me wrong though.

i picked spies but i think it'll be real close between him & simoncelli. marco has that 250 style everyone sez you need & track knowledge & spies...... well his seeming ability to go fast very consistently on tracks he's never raced before, his adaptability to new equipment, new life style & flying.... well it's gonna be really interesting.... starting with valencia!

Aoyama has 2 votes so far,
Mine and yours,

Are we the only 2 people here that know our stuff??

Doesn't matter what the count is, next year he will prove it !!

Marco has already figured out how to ride a midgets machine fast. No adaptability needed.

How long has the Aprilia been on the ball with "midget bikes" to the current Honda? Marco is six feet tall, and the way shorter Hayden even complained. Marco will have a ton of Practice and testing laps to do. Mid summer if everything goes smoothly.

Where as currently yam has one midget, and two stringbeans worth of foundation (doubt JT gave anything) for Ben. ALso I'd guess Ben gets new parts faster than everyone except Marco, but Honda will be more to shooting in the dark with Marco since he is twice as tall and heavy than Pedrosa.

I reckon Aoyama or maybe Bautista for best rookie.

I think Spies will go the same way as all the other 'imported' riders. Time and time again it has been proven that the best riders are those that have come up through the ranks.

Good luck to them all!

Again this coming from the genius that predicted Shnya nakano was going to kick Ben Spies' ... all over world superbike! YEAH!!!! How did that one work out for ya?

Anyone that can't see that these two are the real deal need to just go and watch something else. They have no ability to look at talent and see it for what it is. The rookie battle Shoiuld be between these guys. Could be someone else but I seriously doubt it.

Forgot to say in my original post that I picked Simoncelli.

Also, I am pretty surprised there is only 1 vote for Bautista. He is talented isn't he? Or are people just not seeing Suzuki as a competitive bike next year?

Bautista!. I don't really back superbike riders in MotoGP although Ben is a freak so I reserve my opinion. Keeping the hope alive....

Maybe I'm completely off base but I've always been under the impression that Bautista has gotten where he is through good teams. If I remember correctly he was relatively old (22? 23?) when he won the 125 title and wasn't ever that competitive until he signed for Aspar. Maybe he's just a late bloomer and I'm an ..... but I would find it very odd that a Spaniard could slip through the cracks and not be rushed into top teams the way that Pedrosa and Lorenzo and Marquez have been. I hope he excels, it was hard not to cheer for him at Valencia in 2006 and seems to be a good guy.

I dunno 'bout just good teams... maybe, probably, in the past... yet last year and this year I've become more and more impressed with his racecraft, poise and maturity... probably a mid-packer in MGP but I still wanna see what he can do in the bigs...

Saved me a lot of typing. Thanks.
