Which 250cc drivers deserve a Moto GP ride?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pinky @ Jun 29 2008, 02:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>bautista will win the championship

Well its far from over, and he's not out of it yet but he has a long way to go. He has made a lot of errors this year and had a few average results, i think he's destined to be 3rd.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (frosty58 @ Jun 28 2008, 02:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>bautista, kallio, simoncelli & pasini i think will all end up in the big class eventualy. bautista will probably be the 1st & as soon as next season when martinez takes the aspar team to the big class.
I don't know about Bautista but Simoncelli is now being represented by Carlo Pernat, Capirossi's long standing manager, and Pernat has stated that an agreement is in place for Sic to go to the Satellite ducati next year. I don't know how true or otherwise that is. I think Sic will physically suit the ducati, he's tall enough and heavy enough to be able to load both front and rear of the bike. ..though I suppose that's implying that Hoffmann was perfect for it too. Hmm...maybe I'm wrong then.

Anyway, Kallio has also met with Ducati...I've seen the pics. He actually met with Suppo directly, though Suppo stated that he was meeting with him on behalf of the D'antin team. So could likely be a rookie team for D'antin next year.

Looks like valentino was right about ducati being ruthless. I personally would give guintoli at least a couple more races before deciding. Continually changing riders on a bike which would appear to require a steep learning curve might not be the best way to go.

I don't ever recall Valentino calling Ducati ruthless. What I do remember is him saying that to them it was all about the bike and not the rider. I don't think that makes them ruthless. I think Honda have exactly the same mentality.

I don't recall him saying it either if it comes to it. Perhaps careless of the human element would have been a better way of phrasing it.

It is a business and they all have to be ruthless to some degree, and I wouldn't accuse them of being ruthless with marco melandri; barring an extraordinary turnaround it would seem better for both parties if he goes elsewhere to find a bike more suited to him.

I just think that guintoli is showing signs of coming to grips with the bike which everyone says is hard to ride. I guess kallio and bautista look far more outstanding prospects, but so did marco.

I would imagine there is a lot of meetings going on about rides for next season. That does not necessarily equate to that rider getting the gig in the end. Having said that Sylvain, like Elias and Marco have had a whole winter testing program and 9 races to get the bike sorted. Ducati can't have another season of 3 bikes not achieving results. Marco will get another gig, Elias probably wont and Guintolli is riding for his survival in Motogp. If it's not too late already then he needs results right now to have any chance of keeping his seat.

You are probably right, they need to have things lined up already for next year for sound racing and commercial reasons, hence why suppo seemed to be dismissive of guintoli's improvement during practice at assen whilst acknowledging it. If they are going to get top-notch new 250 riders for the alice team they will need to be confident that they will do well, as I don't think too many riders of quality will line up for rides in 2010 if they burn this year's and next year's riders as well as the two who are already gone.

They should have kept barros, shouldn't they?

Oh guys so sorry about this. It's the satellite Yam not duc. Here it is:

So awfully sorry. Can I just say how sleep deprived I am right now???

I just hope Kallio gets a seat with a competetive bike. I'm sure he has what it takes with his mentality.

But... So Simoncelli is going to get a ride too for MotoGP for next year? Or are these just negotiations talks?

I think Takahashi's apprentaship is complete. He has won races, learnt all he needs to and stayed loyal to Honda.

Indeed. He'd make a good new token Japanese I think

Aoyama isn't half-bad either, but I feel like Takahashi has been stronger considering that his bike is propably a bit worse.

On Mika Kallio,i hope he gets a bike that suits him too.
By the way,did you read about how destroyed his rear tire was in Assen. It was unbalanced!!!!
Not just tire wear or too much/too little heat ,it was a defected tire, and it has happened once before!!
In a sence he had as much chance of winning the race as Rossi had last year in Turkey!
In my opinion Kallio is a really impressive rider and can become really big.

i think they could all do with another year on 250's.

Yeah, I read about that. It was quite shattered by the end of the race. He also had to drive with a broken clutch in Italy and the bike broke in Barcelona.. Not very good luck.

Well, we'll see what happens and who (if anyone) will get a ride for next year.

Mika Kallio is a ...... bag... he had the 125 title many times and threw it away.
I seriously hope guys like this do not come into Motogp in any shape or form.

Only the Elite riders should get a motogp ride, we have enough dead wood as it is.

You sir, are an arrogant ..... whom I'd put to ignore list right at this very moment if this forum had one.

Sorry for double-post, but there's some new info regarding Mika Kallio's next year ride:

In his website, Kallio says that the negotiations are progressing as planned in schedule.

Apparently, he has three choices: Kawasaki, satellite Ducati and Hondan JiR-satellite team. He's saying that the choice won't come down to money, but to what team will be able to provide the most competetive package.

The confirmation for his next year contract will be provided at the end of this month.

What do you guys think?

Then i hope he goes to Kawasaki or as a first choice satellite Ducati because then he gets some Bridgestone experience. That's an advantage if he wants to go to factory Ducati later.
I kind of wonder how the team managers go about to choose the right rider for their team if that rider has never ridden the bike. And ofcourse how do you know as a rider that a certain bike is going to suit your style?
The managers can't reveal just about every little trick you need to go fast on the Ducati for instance,if Kallio then decides to go with Kawasaki.
This must be why they have Canepa. If they absolutely can't find any one to fill in for Bayliss then he can do it.But the main goal must surely be to have him in a Ducati GP team.
Anyway i hope Kallio gets the factory Ducati spot 2010.

^I agree. Honda may seem like it would perform the best out of those at the moment, but I would rather want to see him try to get the Kawa going or even try his luck on the Ducati.

Well, first I want to see where he'll get himself on this year's championship, but I'm even more interested on how his career in MotoGP class will develop.

I haven't heard any news about possible Moto GP rides of the other 250cc drivers, but I think we'll hear more when the series returns from the holidays.
