Which 250cc drivers deserve a Moto GP ride?

Well so far I think Kallio has proved he deserves a shot in MotoGP. And Bautista and Simoncelli have proved they are the quickest riders and the ones with more potential so they WILL be in MotoGP sooner or later.
Others wont have it so easy. Debón is doing well but it doesn't matter how well he does cause he's over 30 and nowadays it seems some teams look more at your age than your speed. Aoyama was doing pretty well but now is overshadowed by Kallio and he's not that young either.
Other good riders that seem a bit stuck in the class are Barberá, Lüthi and Takahashi.

BTW Simoncelli might kill himself or someone else before he gets to MotoGP. So maybe he doesn't make it to MotoGP because of that.

Kallio will stay with KTM until the 2strks are history, which will be soon. Then the race will be between Kallio, Spies and, I hate to say it, the midget for 2010.

I can't comment on this with any real knowledge/authority as I've just watched the last couple of 250 races and only glanced at the series occasionally this season.. however, I'm not going to sit on the fence!

My gut feeling is Simoncelli has what it takes and could have a big future. I think he can make the transisition to MotoGP but needs another season in 250. Having said that I think his best riding will come in the premier class due to his style/size. I'd also like to see him in World Superbike, I think it would really suit him!

Kallio is impressive and seems a genuine and consistent race winner, manages to maximise his potential for a result. Bautista was the guy to beat I thought initially and certainly has the talent and speed. He seems to have had some problems though lately. I anticipate seeing him in MotoGP though sooner rather than later and I think he'll do very well.

I'd like to analyse the Japanese 250 riders closer before commenting on them, I'm not sure yet but think they go alright.

Not complicated - just the opposite - a simpleton.

Kallio - all hail ice speedway. Bautista at some point is inevitable, but it won't mean .... without a competetive ride. The master plan has always read that Simonceli will be there at some stage too - though he's far from ready yet.

Imagine a Moto GP bike in the hands of Barbera!!?? Take the worst of De Angelis, the worst of De Puniet and combine it with an IQ that would make Pinky look like an Oxford Don in comparason.

it would be safer to give a 10-year old a loaded AK47.... and probably funnier too!
i am actually surprised that he is still allowed to race by Dorna even if he is spanish.

Because astounding as it may seem after last weekend (and indeed when you look back at his 125 career), Simonceli does have a modicum of race craft as opposed to Hector who has the race brain of a plant pot.

Simonceli also has big hair which helps, Hector doesn't...just girlie eyelashes.

I remember one race about a year ago were Barberá had brake problems and kept overshooting the first corner, and it was dangerous, and that's pretty much everything I remember of him doing dangerous things, Simoncelli beats that with just the last 2 races.
Maybe so much hair squeezed in his helmet affects his brain who knows.

Hector's always outbraked himself. Not only that, he's not a clever rider..there's never a plan, and if there is he always screws it up by trying to be too clever, or forgets it midway through the race.

"I don't advise a haircut man, all hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials, they pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly to the brain."

I wonder if Marco Simonceli's aware of 'Withnail and I'...probably not.

Barbera sure as hell hasn't impressed me with his race-smarts. Never seems to get the job done well enough to be a race-winner.

bautista, kallio, simoncelli & pasini i think will all end up in the big class eventualy. bautista will probably be the 1st & as soon as next season when martinez takes the aspar team to the big class.

They are the probables, for sure. Maybe you could add Aoyama and/or Takahashi because of their passports (they're good riders, with solid results, but neither will ever have MotoGP teams beating down their doors on talent alone).

I hope Bautista doesn't move up next year, he's clearly not ready. He looked very ragged at times last year, but didn't crash as much. This year... a disaster. I wonder if Lorenzo got a chuckle out of his end of race incident with Simoncelli; what goes around comes around, Alvaro.

Simoncelli is a loose cannon, no doubt, but he does have a slower bike than the Aprilla guys and is making up for it with race crafts and 'questionable' riding. I predict it will all end in tears for him before the end of the season...

While no one 'deserves' a race crash, Barbera was being a .... at Mugello. He had a much faster bike, but was toying with Simoncelli in the last few laps. He should've just put his head down and gone for it. But as others have said, thinking and Hector don't go too well together...

I don't know what you are all talking about, 250s IS the premier class.

Kallio and Bautista are the most talented, Simoncelli just needs a bigger bike to suit his size.

i thought the same thing watching the race. i just couldn't believe that stupidity!

My choice would be Kallio and bautista for definite, Simoncelli has proved himself worthy this year, he definetly could do with a bigger bike to suit his size, allthough i still think its a little early to be sticking him on an 800. Aoyama & nakano in a team ?? it would certainly be interesting to see what those two could pull out of the bag, auyama would probably show nakano up. I would of loved to see what debon would of done with the 800's but i think his age will hold him back, I cant see him getting offered a premier class bike.

I think Bautista has a little more to prove yet, his performance hasn't been great this year. Simoncelli hass found some form and if it lasts all season i'd say he's ready. Kallio is also one for the future.
