I get accused of being a sadist all the time by F1 fans because I feel part of the reason Jimmy Clark and Jochen Rindt are held in such high regard nearly 50 years after they died, is precisely because they were doing what they did in an era where there was very little margin for error.

F1's a joke these days. No risk involved, yeah Jules Bianchi got severely injured through what was a freak accident that you'll never see again. It's kind of like what I tell the sadists, I ride motorcycles, and when I'm out on the bike, I'm exposed to more risk than many motor sports drivers are ever in one ride. Most of those guys like Petrov who paid to get into F1 are ..... who have no real discernible skill level.

Verstappen is sort of like MurderMac on some level. No way he gets to F1 at 17 in any other era but the conservation era where there is no reward to pushing the limits of the machine. Big difference is obviously that MM has obvious talent, just a lack of a functioning brain.

Balls Arrab, yours must be made of titanium. On the superkarts we ran hand clutches and I ALWAYS raced with my hand over the clutch lever after I siezed going into Edwina's chicane at Mallory one year.

Mick, I'm a huge fan or road racing. The NW200 for me is a bit more awesome than the TT because they race in packs, but still damned awesome!

P.S. Great to have you amongst others back Arrab :)

Thanks 22.

I'm guessing that was Edwina's pre-alteration. I've always loathed Mallory. Its deceptively simple layout is full of pit falls. Devils elbow is horrendous on a bike - cold side of the tyre, off camber and a blind entry as I recall. I once rode both Doni and Mallory in the same day...one's as smooth as a billiard table and the other surface has been contracted to a Pikey paving and driveway service. Glad it avoided extinction though.

I rode a 250 2 stroke once, it was a CBR 250 crosser that I bought the motor from purely for my kart, .... me it scared the .... out of me! Total respect to the 500 guys.

Agree.

A friend of mine bought an RG500 solely because everyone had LCs - (actually, like a ...., I had the RD400 to be different which also stood out from the pack, usually being a quarter of a mile behind). Mindful of this I used to coax him into lending me the gamma. I always, always covered the clutch lever.

I have a half share in a CR250. Haven't ridden it in ages as it lives in a shed far far away. It's actually less scary than a CR125...as the amount of commitment you need to keep it on the pipe and motivated is effing difficult, as least the 250 has modicum of bimbleability...
Dude I know put a Yam 500 into an R6 chassis, won't let me ride it...

Don't forget the surname. Verstappen, Magnussen, Rosberg etc. F1 will soon become a playground for ex F1 drivers kids.

Thanks 22.

Well we used the chicane, but didn't use the chicane through Gerards so we were flat all the way from shaws hairpin all the way to Edwinas chicane, so I wasn't hanging about!

I'm glad Mallory is still around, but like you as a track I hate it. Yup Devils Elbow was blind for us too, but obviously easier for us with 4 wheels. I wouldn't race there again. Castle Combe is just as bumpy too!

Wonder if Barry would come and show us how to back it into the Shaw's hairpin?

I remember reading a story a few years ago about Alex Criville in the 90's having a go on an old 750 2-stroke and having the .... scared out of him, gave Barry Sheene a chuckle.

I do wonder if MurderMac would be riding a less aggressive style if he came into the series maybe 25 years ago. Or at least I'm sure some of the other riders might have beat him senseless behind the garages.

Probably not... the Jurassic-quality safety measures didn't stop Schwantz from collecting his share of broken bones. Didn't stop his wild-style riding either. I can tell you from experience, hitting a hay bale isn't much better than a brick wall. I high-sided at Loudon and was flung into the bales and ended up with a broken hip.
