hi, have looked everywhere it seems and can't find a list of moto gp records that includes " most consecutive races won " ... whose record ( and what is it ) that marquez is headed for ?

i have always been a car racer and only bike involvement was some motocross racing and watching a bit of motogp on tv but after last year and now this year there is simply no doubt that moto gp is the best racing there is . these guys really are the best by far...

Agostini won 20 in a row from in 1968 and 1969. He was in the habit of skipping the last few races of every season so his streak could have been much longer. He won all 38 races he entered from the start of the 1968 until he crashed out of the Italian 500 race in 1971. He also won a ton of 350 races at the same time.

Marquez will have to win every race this season and at least the first 3 of the 2015 season to take the record.

Things were a lot different back when ridiculous records were set. Augustiini won something like 60 straight 500cc and 350 GP races " he entered ", officially the record is 20 in a row i think. They are official records, but i personally dont put much stock in any of them. The machine disparity was so pronounced back then, a good street rider could have climbed on the MV Augusta and won a world title. A really good rider was as you can see, unbeatable. In a lot of those races, he would lap the field, some 2 and 3 times. It would be like running Moto3 against Moto GP today. Some fans today whine about Honda being a 1/10th faster than the field, if you transported that same fan back to the late 60's they would commit suicide.

I somewhat agree with that.

For a more recent (and fair) comparison, it would be Mick Doohan 1997 record of 10 consecutive wins, which Marquez just equalized. One more win and he'll break the record for the modern gp era.

Doohan's main rival (Criville) ...... himself at Assen that year and missed the middle part of the season so Mick's 10 in a row gets an asterix against it. He only really had to beat Okada and Aoki (who?).

So, in your opinion, will MM's 10 have an asterisk due to Jorge being .... at least until now? MM only had to beat the yellow clown and the dwarf who couldn't win a championship if he was the only rider on track!!!

Most streaks could have asterisks i suppose, since there are almost always some kind of circumstance that feeds into the streak itself. I think what Marquez is doing is the most impressive feat i have seen in Moto GP considering the quality of competition and machines. The circumstances have actually gone against him and he still wins. Punted back to 10th at LeMans makes up 4 second deficit, runs off track at Assen, makes up 4 second deficit starts from pit road at Germany, makes up 7 second deficit. Wasnt that long ago if you made just the smallest mistake, your race for the win was over, the competition was that good. Now, against that same competition, huge deficits are being overcome at will. People can whine all they want about the Honda, yes, its good, but the difference here is the rider.

We can put asterisks on several records and Titles, I am sure...but do we cheer or enjoy the records and titles any less....I dont think so...

MM is doing something we wont get to see for a very very long time again....i for one am enjoying every second of it... :)
