Whatever helps you sleep Dovi

Well said. He does extract the strengths of it very well. In a way I'd have liked to see what Lorenzo could have done with it this season.

He was too engrossed in his contract negotiations early in the year and took his eye off the ball. With a rival like Marquez you cannot do that.

Whatever it was, he should have said “Gigi gave me a bike that was competitive on every track and I made some early mistakes that put us behind the 8 ball” . Not, “we” made mistakes.. I bet Gigi said to himself “we”, mother ...... you got a rat in your pocket.

You mean the full factory Repsol Honda on which he crashed six times due to sheer recklessness. Yeah... I remember.
I agree that Dovi seems to lack that extra strand of DNA that separates great riders from greatest riders. MM, Lorenzo and Rossi have it. Dovi, much as I like him seems destined to be the bridesmaid. Still as bridesmaids go, he’s one of the more admirable ones. Beating Marquez more times than any other rider over the last three seasons is nothing to sneeze at.
You give me .... in this thread, despite me giving Dovi support, and people gave me crap all last year about Dovizioso. NOW you admit that Andrea IS NOT A CONTENDER. NOT A CONTENDER!!!!!

Thank you so much for your enlightenment.
He dominated the 2016 and 2018 season on an inferior bike. In 16 Yamaha was better and 18 the Ducati was better.
Now we have Marquez winning on inferior equipment in 2015-2018. What is next? Rossi winning on a KTM? :partytime (emoji no workie)

Obviously some struggle with the definition of inferior. Lower in rank, that’s it. Now, in 15-16 and the first half of 17, Yamaha was the better bike than the Honda. In the second half of 17, the Ducati was at the least Honda’s equal if not better and in 18 the Ducati was clearly the better bike. Saying the Honda was inferior is not saying it was a turd, it was simply not as good as the Ducati.

By definition, the Honda was inferior . never did I say it was grossly inferior, or that the Ducati was outlandishly superior, but nonetheless the Ducati was the better bike and the championship was a rout. It simply cracks me up that he wants to share the blame with his team for his mistakes.

Bottom line is that if you put Marquez on the 2018 Ducati, with Dovi on the other factory Ducati getting equal treatment, or on the HRC bike as the number 1 factory guy, barring injury MM still wins, probably more easily. No shame in that as has been said, it is entirely possible to be a fantastic rider but not as good as MM. It is hard to make a case for him being as good as Casey Stoner for that matter without involving conspiracy.

It is also the case that in several of MM’s title winning years no other Honda rider has been competitive. Maybe MM is due some of the blame for that, who knows, but it is the case.

Do take a chill pill. I haven't given you anything.

Anyone who wins as much as Dovi does, is a contender. Being a contender is a state of possessing potential. Not the same thing as being a sure thing, or having near inevitability.

I'm a huge Dovi supporter, regardless of whether he comes in first or third, because he's got guts, never gets discouraged and has a terrific work ethic.

To be fair Kesh, and I'm sure you'd agree on this one, they all have guts. Every single rider on that grid is a superhuman to me.

I've never thought Dovi had what it took to win a championship. He's ultra talented with decent race craft, just missing that little bit of "refuse to loose" mentality.
