Marquez took that title moreso than Dovi and Ducati let it slip away. Misano. Marquez would not settle and Dovi did, that was a 9 point swing. Aragon was very costly to Dovi as that was a race a Ducati ran at the front the entire race but he finished way back in 7 th or 8th. Leading in to that race they were tied and MM got enough of a lead to race how he wanted to control the title. PI was not a good race for Ducati but once again Marquez didn’t settle for anything less than a win when it would have been perfectly understandable had he gotten out of that hornets nest at the front where you had Zarco and Ianonne throwing haymakers without consequence. The reality is, the entire drama of the season would have been non existent had it not been for the highly unusual Honda engine blow up at Silverstone. In my opinion, without that mechanical, he wins that race and runs away with the title as he was dominant from the German Grand Prix till the end of the season. In the last 10 races, he either won or could have all but 1, Motegi. He won 5 of those, finished 2nd at the wire in 2 more, blew up in a race he was more than likely going to win and flat out threw away a certain win at Valencia. Dovi most certainly deserves his 2nd place finish, but he was very fortunate that it was close.
MM's engine blew up, but Dovi was taken out by AE41 earlier in the season, so it balances out.

The alien JL didn't do that because since he arrives in MotoGP he had only ridden the Yamaha. Yeah I've done my maths, but what about yours? In theast races you can see the performance on JL was improving and he was getting closer to Dov, who is riding the Ducati for years. And yes there were other Ducatis in the field, but be a little objective please. There were 3 factory riders, one of that was Petrucci who surely had to test things for the factory during the race weekends, like Cal, and so he can't focus just on his own performance. So, Petrucci is done. Only left is JL, as I said, completely new on this bike and it took some time to adapt. So, one weekend tester and one Ducati newbie, anyone left who had a factory Ducati? No. Dov is a good rider yes, but for me it was 70% Ducati and 30% Dov. We have to wait the season 2018, then we have a fair comparison to JL and then we will see truly see if it was Dov in 2017 or the Ducati.

The real aliens switched from bikes of different makers and won championships in their first seasons; ie Stoner from the satellite Honda to the Ducati and later from Ducati to Honda. And Marquez going from the glorified street bike to the full factory MotoGp bike. If there's such a thing as an "alien" winning at least one race over the course of the season would to most minds be a benchmark.

MM still ended up with 3 dnf’s to Dovi’s 2 and up until the last race, it was 3 to 1 and Marc still had a 21 point lead. Like I said, Dovi was fortunate the title was as close as it was, it could have been a complete runaway. 2 of MM dnf’s cost him possible if not probable wins. He was 2 seconds up on the field when he tossed it at Argentina and was sitting exactly where he wanted just biding his time at Silverstone. Dovi really only had 1 dnf that affected his championship and it barely did. He was running out of the top 10 and his prospects for a good finish were not that good as he had struggled all weekend , not even transfering to Q2. If your going to have a dnf, have it in a race where you are only going to pick up 5-10 points instead of 25 x2 for Marc.

But the point of racing is not to crash.

The dnf that kept the title from being a complete runaway was a mechanical. His 2 crashes were in the first 4 races of the season, no dnf the last 14 races of the season where he was st fault. His worst finish in that span was a couple of 4ths I believe, maybe a 4 and a fifth, would have to lol it up.

Simply no

Sure, but the championship doesn't take into account which rounds you crashed in. It only considers the fact that you crashed. The point is not to crash in any of the rounds.

The point is that MM had 3 DNFs that were his fault, and Dovi had 1. They each had a DNF caused by factors beyond their control.

It doesn't, Marquez was probably going to win that race and at worst be on the podium. Dovi was even close to the podium when he was taken out.

His engine blowing up was his fault?

Marquez's two crashes early in the year came on the front tyre that was clearly very inconsistent. Marquez and Vinales off the top of my head crashed on the tyre and said there was no change in the data from the previous lap.

That is as succint a definition of 'alien' as one could profer.

i feel you reject, because vr failed to attain this achievement.

for me, stoner is an alien, marquez is intergalactic.

the rest compete.

No,he had 2 that were his fault, and like I said had it not been for an engine failure the title run would have been anti climatic .

Sorry, I meant two.

Ultimately, Dovi knew that about the tyre and opted to be more cautious.

Exactly. I didn't want to throw around the B-word so early in the season. And will be trying not to waste time arguing with blind, cult-followers who use the yellow goggles to filter out reality. To be fair VR did go from Honda to Yamaha - but as has been pointed out ad nauseum - the competition at the time was not comparable to what we're seeing in the last five or six years, with no more SNSs.
