West loses Speed Master MotoGP seat

Anthony West has announced that he has been unable to find the funding to return to MotoGP with Speed Master and is now set to retire from racing.

The former factory Kawasaki rider had been in line to join graduating Moto2 squad Speed Master to race its CRT bike in MotoGP this year, but announced on his Facebook page today that the deal had fallen through.

"I, Anthony West, will not race in MotoGP this year or any other races because I cannot find sponsorship to pay the Speed Master team," West wrote.

"Because all teams are asking for money from the riders, only the rich can race in MotoGP/Moto2/Moto3."

West, who most recently competed in Moto2, revealed that he had gone to extreme lengths to try and find the funding, but to no avail.

"I had my car, motocross bike and my house for sale trying to keep the ride and even gave the house as a guarantee if I did not find the money but was not enough," he said.

The 30-year-old Australian believes today's news might mark the end of his racing career.

"I will most likely not race anymore and will return back to Australia to find a normal job," West wrote.

Thats rich coming from someone who bought there way into europe to start with, i guess daddies money is all gone.
 
How many times are people going to post this. hahaha Just kidding Jaz. Its already posted on two other thread. But I suppose its an important enough story that it deserves its own thread. Hernandez and Pietri also couldn't come up with funding. It continues to be a big problem for our sport.

What happened to Dorna pushing money down CRT's throats, or does that extend to the team only, and not the rider?

Anyway, the guy was way out of the points the last two seasons. Maybe that's why MZ didn't pay him.

I've always liked Westy, good rider an seemed a cool guy. Sadly his results over the past few years have been pretty grim, an it was had to justify him back in motogp.I'm also a fan o Ellison, but, I dont see where the CRT ride is gonna get him. I want to see more bikes on the grid, but I want to see young up and coming riders on them. If the right guy gets one, the factories will sit up an notice. If it's full of guys who have had their shot an should really be back home, then qualifying is gonna be an hour of Casey punching the backs of their crash helmets.
 
Pasini is going to cost them more, even before a race has started, than they wanted West to supply .........

Seems @antwest13 has been approached by teams in BSB, IDM and AMA about a ride in 2012. I would love to see him take on the Mountain in BSB!

I'd like to see Ant West in the BSB. It would give me another good reason to follow the series. The question is, what kind of offers is he getting being that most competitive seats are all but taken? I can't really say West was much to root for in Moto2, but given the fact that he tried to sell all his possessions to stay in racing has made me an instant follower. (Despite Pov's disapproval of a man chasing his dream at all cost.) On a related note, I'd like to see him here in the AMA too, not just to see how he fairs, but because surely his girlfriend would be something to look at in the flesh.

Ant West over the mountain would be crazy!! If he's there me and my camera will be also!!
