...thought I'd find a rational motorcycle race forum where not everyone drinks from the Yellow Kool-Aid bottle. Quite refreshing.
Personally, I love my bike racing, I am a lifelong Mick Doohan fan. Began following 500GP back in 1989. Here in Ireland coverage meant sketchy highlights from UK TV, and waiting for each month's Bike Magazine to read the racing reports of Michael Scott.
Once Mighty Mick was forced to retire in '99, I even became a Rossi fan. Attended my first live race in Jerez in 2001, but later that year drifted away from Rossi as something about his persona just didn't gel with me. The whole poncing around bit, especially after following a rider like Mick who'd eat your baby if it would win the race. To me Valentino seemed like a guy who'd eat your baby to win the race, but publicly deny any knowledge that said child had been consumed. I just didn't like that.
Became a Stoner supporter the day Mick said "You can't learn speed like that Stoner kid's got" after watching him race a Go Cart, that support developed into fan just for the beauty of his style. My heart as regards teams will always be HRC, for good & bad I just love the HRC desire to crush any and all opposition.
Try to fit in at least one GP per year since, Donington (multiple times), Laguna Seca for the 2005 return, Mugello 2007, Aragon 2012, Brno 2015 were some of my highlights, each for different reasons. Heading to Misano this year.
I used to hangout on the old Colin Edwards CERacing forums back in 2002/3/4, unless I'm mistaken I see some familiar names here, like Birdman et al.? Maybe they're just coincidences?
Have become a fan of Marquez for similar reasons to Stoner. As for all the BS between he and Rossi, for the good of the sport I have loved for many, many years I'd like to see that end. I have nothing against Valentino, although his 'fans' are extremely painful to deal with so likely won't post a lot, but read daily.
Anyhoo, this was a rambling introduction, so it's likely a blessing that I don't post much.
