A statement from the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team.

Yamaha regrets to announce that Maverick Viñales‘ entry to this weekend‘s Austrian MotoGP event has been withdrawn by the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team.
The absence follows the suspension of the rider by Yamaha due to the unexplained irregular operation of the motorcycle by the rider during last weekend‘s Styria MotoGP race.

Yamaha‘s decision follows an in-depth analysis of telemetry and data over the last days.

Yamaha‘s conclusion is that the rider‘s actions could have potentially caused significant damage to the engine of his YZR-M1 bike which could have caused serious risks to the rider himself and possibly posed a danger to all other riders in the MotoGP race.

The rider will not be replaced at the Austrian GP.

Decisions regarding the future races will be taken after a more detailed analysis of the situation and further discussions between Yamaha and the rider.

He is the gift that keeps on giving at the moment - It sounds like Yamaha thinks that he was deliberately trying to damage the engine during the race (a trackside photographer reported that he was constantly hitting the rev limiter in the latter stages of the race)...

I'm assuming that this is the end of his involvement with Yamaha and that he won't be taking any further part for the rest of this season, but is it the end of his MotoGP career?

After listening interviev after race, it is clear that there is conflict between team and Maverick. Lets see how things will go after this.
 
Can you imagine the puzzlement of engineers who initially read the data.

This couldn't have come at a better time. If your a fan of Aprilia and want to see them succeed, this is good news.
If they signed him I can only see Maverick turn into Zarco KTM 2.0.
If he couldn't ride the easiest bike on the grid, there is no way he could ride the Aprilia.

What a ridiculous story. Its funny and incredibly sad

Yes, and Zarco has continued to prove how worthless and useless he is post KTM.

Seems like there is a strong possibility Vinales won't see the end of the season with Yamaha.

I think this is the biggest fry-out since Melandri. Probably worse since they are saying he was trying to actively destroy the engine. I think that stall on the grid was enough for him and this team.

As far as his future goes, he just ...... himself with this move. What team is going to sign him knowing he purposely tried to wreck an engine because he's thrown a hissy fit. How do you even trust Vinales at this point?

I think Yamaha should actually replace him immediately with Dovi. They'd actually be doing themselves a favor by doing that.

What are his possible options now? Aprilia? Do they even want to touch him at this point?

All the top seats in WSBK I believe are out of the equation.

Maybe he can go ride in BSB and maybe figure out how to ride a motorcycle again and not throw .... fits.

I can't see him coming back after this, and he has tainted his potential for future unemployment. Hugely unprofessional, immature and dangerous.

Lets wait until it all unfolds here, maybe with his luck, just maybe he had a mechanical issue with the gears. Who knows it Mav after all.

When they looked at the data, that's why they freaked out entirely about what he was doing. I'm sure they had a conversation, and if there was a mechanical issue with the gearbox they wouldn't be suspending him. He threw his toys out of the bin as usual. He's an absolute ....... and has possibly thrown his career straight into the garbage.

I have to agree with here.

For a Japanese company to go public with something like this, it's basically the same as setting a Nuke off. They always try and resolve things in house, out of the public eye to save the companies honour.

I can't see there being a simple mechanical failure explanation for this one unfortunately

I think Vinales' biggest mistake was airing his grievances publicly in the manner he did. Gave so much insight to his thought process or lack of one. No one else on the grid beat him, he beat himself in the end.

Other riders make criticisms as well, but tend to be a little more polite in what they say for the most part. I understand it because sometimes you've got to light a fire under the ... of factories at times. But Vinales had way too much of an edge to his public comments IMO. After the announced split at the end of the season he should have just kept his mouth shut. You run the races you have left and then either .... off to another team or to another series entirely. All that being said, I think this is the pressure valve blowing off after having been building steadily since 2017. When he stopped winning then, he started getting more and more frazzled by the bike or the tires or both or even Rossi for that matter. Now that Rossi is gone, he's being clubbed over the head by Fabio, so that probably didn't help matters further and his confidence is completely shot.
