Was surfing YouTube. Found this

Lewis Hamilton when he was 13 years old. The interviewer says that one day we will surely see you on the F1 grid. That was like the Nostradamus moment :)

Bhai- this section is specifically for threads pertaining to MotoGp. Please post this stuff in the appropriate section.

Rafa is a Lewis Hamilton fan. Why am I not surprised?

I do not follow F1. So i am not his fan. I had huge expectations from Raikkonen though. Lost interest somewhere dont know why?
Suppose if i was in an alternate reality, what would that say about me and why would you not be surprised? I am surprised by your statement.

Because you went out of your way to post a video about Lewis Hamilton and not Kimi Raikonnen, so it led me to believe you were a fan. There are countless videos of drivers putting in similar performances but you haven't posted them

At the time that video was taken, Hamilton was a works McLaren Mercedes driver. That is, they were paying thousands (and I'm talking in the hundreds of) towards his racing and getting him to win. With the money and equipment he had at his disposal, the win from the back of the grid was far less impressive.

A friend in the UK once remarked to me that if it weren't for F1, "Hamilton would be out with the rest of the chavs stealing wheels off of cars."

Exactly, he came from an extremely privileged background, despite what he'd like you to believe. He won two national karting championships they at the time, cost £50,000 a year just to be remotely competitive in and the latter he won got him a McLaren contract which was also for reasons other than his talent. He was also expelled at school for assaulting a fellow pupil but because Ron Dennis and his dad lobbied even to the then prime minister Tony Blair, he was re-instated when it was miraculously discovered that the headmaster had accused the wrong person....

I totally don't follow the sport, but back in '84 I knew a guy who was a the low end of the totem pole in F1 (Can't remember his name to save my life) and he basically said nobody really much gets into F1 without coming from a moneyed background. Is this no longer true?

Isn't it already that way also in motogp? Unless you are a Stoner, Lorenzo etc you have to bring the sponsors to get a ride don't you?

To an extent, but look at the quality of riders in MotoGP compared to drivers in F1. There are no 'average' riders in MGP in my opinion, but there are a considerable number of 'average' rich kids in F1 who could be replaced by any number of average Joe's.

MotoGP also has a better support system/career ladder for rising stars such as the Repsol support, Spanish CEV series and scouts like Alberto Puig without whom, riders like Stoner would have been back home working a boring job years ago.

In single seaters, there is very little in the form of scouts and no support structure. GP3 and GP2 teams takes on drivers based on money, REGARDLESS of talent.
