wait i thought the death of motogp was the CRTs?.. or was it the Spanish Repsol Honda strong arming rule changes? no wait it was the tires!?

Hence the quote " more stupidity". Dorna cant seem to help themselves from making bad decisions when it comes to Moto GP. The slightest hint of " fixing the series" to propel Rossi back to the front will not end well. What happens when the horde stomps their feet demands wins and championships instead of just being competitive. If Dorna were smart, which they are not, they would let Rossi fade into the sunset naturally and focus on the future of the series, instead of looking for a 2 year quick fix. I guess they figure if they can dilute the series enough, he can hang around and be competitive till he is 40 like the riders in WSBK.

The prime example of someone who is confused between what is good for the sport & what is good for their enjoyment of the sport.

What would be good for my enjoyment of the sport is Hayden and Spies winning every race. Ironically, my favorite era of GP was when Rossi was winning title after title, not because i liked Rossi, but because the advancement of the machines was incredible. I will say it again, for Dorna to get involved in who is on what machine, is not good for the sport.

Hmmm, Interesting stuff:

"

A return to Yamaha remains an option for Rossi, while HRC vice president Shuhei Nakamoto told Motosprint he would be interested in placing the Italian in a works-supplied satellite team.

"I'd like to work with Valentino. When he was at Honda I was on the Formula 1 programme, so the only time I've seen him racing with us from our pits was at the Suzuka 8-hour race," he said.

"It hasn't been possible to place him in the works team, but I'm ready to supply him with a factory bike in one of our satellite teams."

Aside from Dovizioso, Rossi's decision could also hold the key to both Cal Crutchlow and Nicky Hayden's futures."

Povol you are correct, the time is to move on and not a short term boost using Rossi, all the money that will be involved in this one move could bring up the top five from Moto 2 and supply bikes and then the series could go forward with new riders and new fans,Rossi's time is over and Dorna need to embrace the future not the past.

Wow! Really? A big deal if the offer is genuine.

I think it is big deal for factories where Rossi finish his career so they can use his image and at the same time they know Dani and Marc won't be able to beat Lorenzo next year at least. Rossi could well be past his best but unitl he is on competitive japanese bike again we won't know.

& Letting major sponsors & the wallets of casual fans is? You don't seem to accept that for development of any kind you need the money.

You might think it's distasteful, but it's reality & it has been since Graham Hill slapped Gold Leaf on the side of his car. & The top 5 of Moto 2 ain't gonna bring it.

The way I see it Dorna are floundering about how to reinvigorate the sport, an attempt to put VR on a potentially winning bike is just buying them time to think something up/make CRT viable. If it's even true, it sounds like a over zealous journalistic wet dream to me.

But until they get on MGP bikes and start getting results you dont know that, one of them could be the next Rossi in that class but while he is taking all the cash and headlines no one has a chance to move forward.

There maybe riders in Moto2 who could take it to Lorenzo but they will never find out when all the focus and cash is going Rossi's way. Bad investment strategy.

Lets put in perspective, the two most exiting things in Moto gp this year are Bradl and Cal (everybody else is doing what they did last year)but instead of all the effort, media headlines and cash being used to get them on factory kit its being used to get an ex champion back to the top. Again bad investment.

All I now is if this Marlboro Yamaha Rossi thing comes to fruition I'm going to buy the R1 replica and a carton of Marlboros

Hardly a bad investment when the Moto 2 riders don't have the financial clout. Rossi's time is over when he no longer has that or the desire to ride. If he goes to Yamaha with Marlboro he could potentially be securing their future in the sport beyond his time. Yamaha would be a far better investment for Philip Morris than Ducati anyway right now.

I think you are also confused between the good of the sport & what is good for your enjoyment too.

No you just completely missed the point.

There is no way trying to put Rossi back at the top is better for the sport in the long term over investing in up and coming riders that have many years ahead of them.

Its a ood job you dont run my buisness.

Rossi is the past. Maybe Ezy would like him to be on a competitive bike for another two years to keep audiences up while other champions come up from Moto2, but hey, that's business as usual. And still, even if Rossi lands a works Honda or Yamaha for the next two years, he'll still have to race it against Lorenzo and Pedro etc. so it wouldn't exactly be the picnic nicely served for him, that some are making up in their minds.
