Under-Rated and Over-Rated Riders

If you are the best team you will have the best rider. I never knew overated=best!

I do think that Rossi is over rated because there is so much hype surrounding him that i dont think anyone could live up to. People expect him to go out there and win race after race after race and its just not possible.

The most under rated would have to be Nakano. Hes riding a pos, with some sketchy rubber underneath it and still in the top ten. The same could be said for Hopper

This is touchy. How do you define overrated? If you mean a rider who gets talked up by people then fails to perform, well Rossi dosen`t fit that description. I`m not a Rossi fan at all, but he`s clearly one of the best riders ever to grace the GP. I think what a lot of people mean when they put Rossi at the top of thier lists is overhyped. He gets more attention than the rest of the grid combined. Sure he does desevre the most attention, he`s the reigning champ and he`s very charismatic, but even taking that into account, he gets more than his fair share of air time. Which is why I`m saying he`s overhyped, not overated.
Agree with racer on Cardoso. The guy dosen`t get rated at all. He bought his way into motoGP, rich prick.

Yes I am jealous.

As far as underrated riders go, it varies from place to place. I mean, everyone seems to think Nakano is underrated, and I agree, but over here in the land of the rising sun he gets the praise he deserves.
Another example, some people have said Hayden. Log on to superbiasplanet.com and see how he`s rated there.
So I`m going to say who I think is underrated on this site, because like I said, it varies from place to place.
First is Nakars, without a doubt. A quiet achiver who`s held back by his machine. Now I`m a die hard Kawa fan so I`d love to see him stay there and the Kawa 800 to be somthing competitive, but in the real world, I'm also a Nakano fan, regardless of wether he rides for Kawa or the evil red wing corporation. Truth is, the green bikes are ...., and Nakars deserves better.
Second is Vermulen. I belive he`s got it in him to be the next Hayden or better.
Third, I`m saying Checa. If everything went to plan, he could have been on a Pons Michelin Honda fighting for Podiums, but thanks to Biaggi (Its so easy to blame that guy for so many things) Checa i on the shoestring budget Dunlop M1, and thanks to his age, the future dosen`t look bright.
Then there`s Capirossi. I wouldn`t say he`s underrated, he gets the praise he deserves, but, corrcet me if I`m wrong but hasn`t this guy has won races against Doohan AND Rossi? He may never be a champ, but that`s somthing not many guys could boast about.
As for overrated riders, well I can`t really think of any this season

Nicky Hayden - Underrated. He deserves so much more credit. Consistently on the podium, I don't think MotoGP has ever seen a more consistent season from someone.

I guess you've never heard of Mick Doohan then.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Ooost @ Jul 24 2006, 02:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Shinya Nakano is the most underrated rider in MotoGP. Hopefully his hissy fit in the pit box after his ZX-RR broke down mid race yesterday made him realize what a POS he is riding and he'll get wise and move to a Honda.
His disadventage is certeinly his bike

Like I said, there`s a difference between overated, overhyped and just plain crap riders. I think that needs to be pointed out before people start saying someone as talented as Rossi is overrated.

Richo, anyone who gets the ridiculous hype that Rossi gets, you'd get the feeling he's utterly untouchable and invincible and nobody can get near him and he finishes every race lapping the entire grid. He's a great rider like I said, truly one of the best, but he's hyped far far far too much by the press.
And no, I don't think there is a big difference between over-rated and over-hyped.

to say tht rossi is an over rater rider...is a big old pile of ....
You have a point there and I have thought this many a time but Rossi is not a "big old pile of sht".

From what I've read in this thread, theres nothing thats been said that I'd class as being over the mark.

People have lots of different opinions, see the same situations different and have biased opinions because of their allegiances to different riders!

You must know (being a football fan) that this is really light stuff compared with what people in the papers and indeed on other forums write about football.........I'm suprised you've taken it to heart rather than posting your argument/comments.

Chill out - have a few days away and get back into it

- you've been here from the start dude.

you have misread me here!

i didnt call <u>rossi</u> a big old pile of .........

i called the fact that people were calling him <u>'over rated'</u> ...'one big old pile of ....'
<

how can you say that a man with his acheivements along with the way he has propmoted the sport to a new level, and his influence on new riders and those wanting to follow in his footspets is overrated...????!!!!

i find him quite remarkable in fact....

its far easy to attack him when he is down...and support other othe riders who are having a good season.for example, people can now put hayden onto a higher pedastoll than before...because hes actually getting somewhere in the championship....this is what happend to rossi.....it happend to sete...but it was too much for him....

i hope that hayden succeds in doing what rossi did....he never will to the high <u>degree</u> that rossi did, because rossi promoted the sport at an important time...but hopefully he can be up there with the best in history

last thing....as someone has mentioned b4....
rossi is <u>not</u> over-rated...he is in a class of his own.....

Rossi: Massively under-rated. Half my brain rides; the other one races. The appreciation of his talent will grow in the future. If he ever moves on to WRC, their owners would increase their income several fold. Someone will start a religion on his sake, with a church and ayatollahs and all, before he retires.

Pedrosa: Ridiculously under-rated. His riding is smooooth and a joy to watch. In Puig's words, 'Dani es alucinante, bestial, y tan listo que ni sé lo que le pasa por la cabeza' (something like 'Dani is breathtakingly sharp'). The timing of his blitzing arrival can't be worse: the sport needs an anglosaxon star. How come that the last one is Mike Doohan?

Nakano, Vermuelen: Under-rated, but will they ever replace the donkeys they are currently riding?

Capirossi, Gibernau, Biaggi: They had their chance, many times and in the best teams. The best of their time, but still too far from Rossi-Pedrosa geniuses.

Tamada: Hahahaaaa!
