looks like ducati are getting bayliss in to help with developments, hopefully his input/ideas will help ducati develop the bike so its more user friendly for there riders for this season and also give his opinion on next years early protoype.

STORY:

Reigning triple World Superbike champion and MotoGP race winner Troy Bayliss, who retired from motorcycle competition last season, will test the Ducati Desmosedici GP9 from May 12-14 at Mugello.

The Australian, who will also be present as a guest of Ducati at this weekend's Monza World Superbike round, will ride the factory's MotoGP machine alongside official test rider Vittoriano Guareschi.

Ducati state that 'the test has been planned for a while and will be repeated during the year at future official sessions of the Test Team'.

Bayliss will contribute towards development of both this year's GP9 and next year's GP10.

Bayliss was a permanent MotoGP rider from 2003-2004 with Ducati then spent 2005 with Honda Pons. He made a one-off race-winning return for the Italian factory at Valencia in 2006 (the last race of the 990cc era).

So far this season, Casey Stoner has taken the carbon-fibre GP9 to first (Qatar), fourth (Motegi) and third (Jerez) places. The 2007 world champion is currently second in the championship, eleven points behind Yamaha's reigning champion Valentino Rossi.

However, as has been the case since Stoner's arrival at Ducati in 2007, the other Desmosedici riders are yet to get close to his performances - with the next best GP9 rider rookie Mika Kallio in eleventh. The Finn, who rides for the satellite Pramac team, has taken a best race finish of eighth.

With the Italian Grand Prix also being held at Mugello later this month, it will be interesting to compare the lap times set by Bayliss with the five regular Ducati riders during the May 29-31 event.

Bayliss, who turned 40 at the end of March, was World Superbike champion in 2001, 2006 and 2008. In addition to his Valencia victory, Bayliss took four third-places in MotoGP with a best championship ranking of sixth, during his debut 2003 season.

Troy has indicated that his future plans will include V8 Supercar racing

and Stoner's if you follow that logic.

It looks like Ducati is really committed to find a solution for other riders apart from Stoner. As I said before, Ducati are in it to race.

Bayliss at 40 is still the man.

Your original comment was about Hayden's development abilities, not his results.
Stoner has had a lot more development input into the Ducati than Hayden, therefore following your logic, it's Stoner's poor development abilities that have lead to the Ducatis problems, not Hayden's.

Your second comment about results had nothing to do with your first comment. Clearly you can't even follow a simple debate.

capirossi has had a lot more development input into the first 800cc desmo than Stoner. final result? casey was champ, capirossi 7th. no excuses for hayden.

Really?

Helix, do you really want to "debate" Pinky/#27aus?

He sent me this PM with his new alias (as you can see I keep track of them on my signature):

The clown can't even spell out the place he is from (a bit too long of a word it seems). Are you sure you want to stoop to the level of "debate" (as you call it) that you will get out of Pinky?

Ducati insist these tests were long planned.

Stoner is an excellent tester but his indications are only useful for himself, since his setups are unrideable for the others. This is already well known.

Bayliss is a great rider (at least he consistently won in WSBK, and in one single race on MotoGP 990cc) but one should remember that his setups also, in WSBK, were unusable for the other Ducati riders. So his inputs may not be that useful for making fthe Ducati more rider-friendly...
<

I suspect they want him to just try riding Stoner's setups, to see if he can manage them, rather than trying to discover some alternative configuration. I'mk sure Ducati would still prefer to find at least another rider who can race the Desmosedici, rather than changing the bike too much.

If Bayliss manages the GP09 in Stoner's configuration, they'll have a confirmation and then they'll know something more about the kind of riders they have to look for...

I really hope pinky doesn't own any pets.... I'd hate to see them suffer due to his uncontrollable anger which he displays constantly here in this forum.

Back on topic.... maybe Ducati is seriously giving thoughts about dumping Hayden and signing Troy Bayliss halfway through this season, if Bayliss can show during his testing that he is able to ride the Ducati. Just a thought.

Remember they planned this last year too with Bayliss and Biaggi but eventually cancelled it. Whoever they get to ride that thing, more input is always welcome. I think the main reason they picked Bayliss, was because he won that one race, albeit he had his team work on it and it was a 990. In a way, he's the only other guy to have put that bike on top. If he can ride that bike like casey, maybe it justifies what they've been doing.

Like I said in another thread, Stoner has exactly 4 times as long with Ducati and the bike than Hayden. If the bike still needs development work after the time, then Stoner really has some problems as well.
