Toseland linked to provisional Ten Kate ride

JT to Hannspree, Spies to stick with Yamaha - find out who's going where in next year's WSB series

ACCORDING to the WSB rumour-mill, James Toseland already has a provisional place promised to him in the Ten Kate squad for 2010.

The news is doing the rounds ahead of any announcement by the Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP team about the Brit’s future. The squad's boss, Ronald Ten Kate, has already said he would welcome JT back into the team with 'open arms'.

Which puts the shuffle-for-seats like this: Yamaha 2010, Ben Spies and Leon Camier, Ten Kate Toseland and Rea (Kiyonari stays on the HRC-moneyed Blade), Brux Suzuki, Tom Sykes and Max Neuikirchner, Stiggy switches from Honda to Yamaha and Leon Haslam stays with them.

As was exclusively revealed on visordown.com a month ago, Spies is believed to have had a clause in his Yamaha contract that said that if Jorge Lorenzo did leave Yamaha then he was assured of the ‘satellite’ ride in MotoGP, albeit on pukka factory kit in a privateer’s colours.

Since Lorenzo is know staying at Yamaha, it sounds as if Spies will remain in WSB for 2010.

I think i am supposed to be upset that Spies isnt going to GP, but i am not. If he stays in WSBK i will be estatic. I watched yesterdays race with total indifference and now that Rossi has mind ...... Lorenzo,it will really get boring. GP is starting to feel the affect of Rossi's dominance in a negative way, like F1 with Schummy and even AMA with Mladin and Spies. I cant wait for the next WSBK race and even though i will still make Indy,it is more because of not breaking a commitment to a friend [1/2 hotel expenses and someone to ride with] than anything else.

If Spies stays in WSBK, and Toesland and Vermi return, coupled with the already great field in WSBK, we would be looking at an amazing season in 2010.

I would say JT's return is almost certain.

Vermuelen's is still up in the air, but doubtful he will get the Tech3 ride, even with the offer to ride for free (an intriguing proposal). Perhaps Suzuki will offer him a ride with Alstare. Or he can head back to a Honda (Ten Kate, Stiggy)?

Vermi might but Tose and Spies wouldn't IMO.

Perception sure is a funny thing.

The SBK championship is a 2 horse race: Nori and Spies. I think by the 2nd or 3rd round, it was pretty evident that Spies was the real deal and Nori was just as fast on a F09 as he was on the R1.

The GP championship started as a 4 horse race and is now also a 2 horse race: Rossi and Lorenzo.

Everybody says that GPs are boring and that they're only going to get worse. Last I checked we had two unbelievably close finishes recently and would have had another one had Jorge not dropped it. Remember when everybody, myself included, poo-poo'd Laguna '08 because Stoner was .5 ahead of everybody in every session? Every GP has the potential to be a great race regardless of the formula (800s, 'puters, etc.).

Aside from a lot more bikes on the grid behind the front two, is SBK really producing that much better racing than the GPs?

SBK this year is great and I find myself in the unfortunate position of really rooting for both of the guys fighting for the title. But really, when you cut through the bull, the series' are playing out quite similarly.

The championship could arguably be a 3 horse race still, with Fabrizio. And those who could realistically win a race on any given wkd could expand to include Biaggi, Checa, Haslam, Rea.

And don't forget there are TWO races each weekend.

Excellent points Parc, and fortunately you are right, MotoGP has been loads better this year. If Jorge would have kept it upright these last few races there's a chance we all would be singing the praises of GP racing.

One thing WSBK has always had going for it is the 2 race per weekend formula (28 total races in WSBK this year vs. 17 in GP). If one race is a dull, chances are the other may shine. Imagine if MotoGP would adopt a 2 race per weekend formula. Jorge goes down in race 1 but wins race 2. I don't know anyone who wouldn't like this, except maybe Tom could find something wrong with it.

I feel the same as you right now in regards to the WSBK championship. I have been a big fan of Haga's for years and would love to see him win the overall, but at the same time I have followed Spies rise thru the AMA and am surprised as hell at the amazing rookie year he has had in WSBK. My hope is for a close points battle finish down to the last race and may the best man win.
