Mike, Kesh, please read this.  It summarizes my feelings about the MM pit exit clash quite nicely.  (And, more importantly, validates my assumptions!  :D )

It sounds like every rider EXCEPT Marc (now there's a surprise! ) managed to exit the dreaded "Pit Lane of Eternal Peril" in a manifestly safe manner.  Wow, imagine that...

I'd also like to clarify my objection to your logic.  You deduce that because JL was admittedly off line, that means he deliberately went out there to get cute with MM. I don't think he would.  It's too risky; he has nowhere to go if MM further tightens his line.  It's also somewhat slower than the more direct line; not by much, but I don't think JL would want to give DP so much as an inch.  Unless you can post substantial evidence supporting your conclusion, I reserve the right to call 'wishful thinking' and BS on you line of reasoning.  K?  :)

This may well be evidence against some of my arguments, but the particular argument you mention was not mine (nor Kesh's I believe). My argument is not that they deliberately tried to intimidate/contact each other (that was J4rno's view iirc) but that they deliberately raced each other as they would have in similar circumstances in an F1 race, and that the race was pretty much organised/designed for them to do this.

I've laughed my ... off about the last 10X I've watched the vids: 'How Marquez took it too far & Phillip Island debrief.

Here are the images that when come up I just lose it with laughter:

The body language and reaction between Gabarini and the dudes behind him (Alzamoron & Santi) is hilarious.

Alzamoron is like, no problem.  Santi is like, what we already talked about this.   The other guy is like, did we just .... up?

This one is by far the best!  Oh I wish I knew how to do that drobox thingy.  Suppo is explaining ...., and the expression on Alzamoron's face are priceless!  This pic here doesn't capture his gestures and body language of disinterest at all, the look on his face is worth the price of admission!

You are dense.  Everyone knows Lorenzo was a little wide, he said so himself.  'way off line' is clearly not correct, and my objection to J4rno was not that Lorenzo didn't go wide, it's that he didn't go wide on purpose.

Rubbish.

'Organised' is not a word that belongs anywhere near this race.

Battles in F1 when exiting the pits are the norm, but then again, it's also the norm to use the exit slip road in the way it's designed. To build up speed so then when you rejoin the track, you're at (or close to) race pace which makes the battle about as dangerous as anywhere else.

Now at Phillip Island, some mouthbreather clearly thought it would be better to have bikes rejoin the race at 1/3rd speed. Which is ....... lethal.

I'm dazed and glazed over at this point; essentially beyond caring. But I respect you too much not to read the post. Okay... I've read it. Assuming this anonymous person is someone we can all agree is telling the objective truth - your point is well taken. MM is not the Care Bear of Moto GP. I will not bang on endlessly (been there done that) about mitigating circumstances. I just find myself at this moment in reverie, recalling the insane, days of the rivalry between Schwantz and Rainey and all the shenanigans that passed between those two, and how people were divided about Schwantz, some saying he was unmindful of limits of what could be done on that ...... Suzuki and what a maniac and menace to all he was with his continually crashing; and then of course there were those who saw his efforts as heroic. With the distance of time between then and now there is perspective. Right now - I see very little perspective and largely, a lot of folks trying to foist their opinions on each other. Maybe it's partly because I'm still so jet-lagged and it's too early in the morning - but I've lost the will to care. After a cup of coffee or two I may begin to think on this some more. But probably not. If it's any comfort - I figure the chances that you are right are about 57% in your favor.

Agree with the above. Show me a rider who wouldn't have raced Lorenzo into Turn 1, and I'll show you a loser.

Read the comments as well and have no reason to disbelieve the poster concerning others showing more discretion than MM, as is not uncommon. However, I also have no reason to disbelieve an even closer observer, one Jorge Lorenzo, who called the incident 50/50.

Still think that Dorna/race direction set the thing up intending for the pit-stop to be part of the race, and that both Lorenzo and MM were operating under the assumption that they were racing each other before their paths crossed, ie that JL rode differently to get/stay in front of MM as well as MM having as his priority getting out ahead of JL as opposed to anything else; in any case as someone (I think kiddyk) said he exited the pit quite safely, it was attempting to race Jorge after his exit that caused/contributed to the contact.

I may have been too hard on Dorna; perhaps their intentions were good and the law of unintended consequences has again operated as has unfortunately often been the case with their initiatives. I am fairly certain that the intention was not for the riders to line up at the pit exit point and wait till no bikes were in sight though, not that this would have been safe anyway given the potential speed of approaching bikes, and the bikes going out on cold tyres. No way were the championship contenders ever going to ride an easy out lap to warm up their tyres imo btw. It does appear no riders' meeting was called to explain the ground rules for this unprecedented situation, despite multiple changes including to the exit point and pit lane speed limit in comparison with previous dry/wet or wet/dry flag to flag races. Another point regarding Marky Mark and crew's mistake which has been raised elsewhere concerns the  language employed for the written instructions , and how those instructions translated into Spanish if not in that language originally, given that the pit lane entrance is apparently just past the end of a lap.

Pit lane is between T11 and T12...

Yes, I obviously misinterpreted someone else's argument, but I can still see the possibility of some confusion between pitting before the end of the 10th lap and not completing more than 10 laps particularly in translation from (say) English into Spanish. Every one else in the commentariat and at the track appears to have been aware, but if David Emmett is to be believed MM and his "inner" crew live in their own world; there would seem to be considerable ancillary evidence for this take concerning them.
