i used to love watching this guy race but i cant get that tv channel anymore
<

if you like sliding check this bloke out.

It would be cool if they brought him over to compete against the Americans in the AMA SuperMoto series. As far as I know he has not raced here in the States.

I know he raced the 2004 X Games, not sure about any other rounds. BB won that one.

Ooost, after going back and looking at the results, I see why I didn't recall him racing in the States, he crashed. I also found out who BB was....didn't know you were referring to Ben Bostrom.

Supermoto puzzles me. It is excellent to watch, and its super kool to see the sliding that goes on. But sometimes i wonder what the point is of riding an offroad bike on the road. Its like going slower than you can on purpose. I find real road racing far more impressive and even more exciting to watch. And i am convinced that, for example, the AMA superbike champion is a better rider that the AMA supermoto champion.

I just dont get it. It looks like it'd be incredible fun to do, its impressive, its exciting to watch it is everythin bike racing should be, but i dont seem to be able to get too into it, mainly because i feel it is surpassed in every way by road racing.

I actually caught a glimpse of van den bosch just the other day, i think it was the world championships but i didnt know there was one. I remember him winning the european chams a few years back before he tried supersport, but havnt seen his since. I saw you guys said he crashed racing in america recently, but by any means u guys rate him as highly on a supermot as you do Ben Bostrom (he is AMA champion??)

VDB used to win everything at one time on the ktm, everyone else used to race for second place,he was that good,he went to supersport for a new chalange but it did not go so well, and when he returned back to supermotard he no longer dominated it for some reason.

the point of supermoto is. racing on dirt and road in the same race. it's normaly 70% tarmac & 30 % dirt with a jump or 2 chucked in for good measure. the road sections are normaly very twisty with turns that are so tight i doubt you could ride a gp bike on that track, most times they race on go-kart tracks or carparks that have been temp converted.
the point for me is it's like real life urban street racing. imagine the cop's chasing you aroung housing estates then if they get to close you go off road, you just cant do that on a sports bike.

I think thats spot on, its almost exactly what it seems like to me, but as kool as it is to watch, it doesnt appeal to me as a serious sport as much as it does as a bit of a laugh.

Yeah that's what it was, I knew his results weren't indicative of his capabilities. Yeah, BB is B. Boz or Ben Bostrom and there is no convincing me otherwise than he is the greatest Supermoto rider in the world.

I know what you mean Tom, it does seem a level below road racing. It's almost a novelty for me. But I love watching roadracers like Bostrom get pitted against MX stars like Doug Henry and Supermoto specialists like Eddy Seel and watching BB come out on top. Proves how talented our roadracers really are.

And plus, you gotta love anything entering a turn completely sideways.

Really? Have you ever seen Jeff Ward and Travis Pastrana on a supermoto? I think they give E. Boz a run for his money. The problem is that Ward is old and Tavis is doing everything (though he is the greatest two-wheeled racer/performer of all time, bar none). But I'm a fan of both Bostroms none the less. I wish E. Boz had more success in WSBK and AMA SBK. Damn it was frustrating to see him consistently behind the top factory riders.

If you ever do it, you'll understand. Do you dirt bike? Do you roadrace (or go out on trackdays)? Imagine all the fun you have on each, you get that during one session of supermoto. BTW, its not that slow, even if you are slow though, the sensation of speed is as much, if not more, than when you do either of the two. Try it, I guarantee, you'll be hooked.

No doubt trying it would probably change my mind in a big way. Ufortunately i am a 19 year old student who can bareley afford food, so simply trying this stuff its pretty difficult. I cant even afford to fix my stupid written off bike as it is. But its on my to do list. My off road experience is seriously limited but trying it changed things a lot for me.

I'll try it this summer then get back on here, we shall see what happens.

I've seen BB beat both Ward and Pastrana senseless, poor Wardy on multiple occasions. As much as I respect and enjoy Pastrana's riding, he's got nothing on BB on a Supermoto. Sure, he spends all his time on two wheels upside down or else strapped into a Subaru but it's not as if BB is putting in lap after lap on a 450 either. He's got enough on his hands trying to sort his Superbike/Superstock now.

Are you talking about Ben? Eric only raced select WSB rounds in 2002 as a factory Kawasaki entry while Ben was a full time Ducati factory rider. He was a front runner in 2001 but slipped in 2002. One of the main reasons he struggled so much was because of Dunlop's lack of tire development that season. Dunlop did not take a single race win that season, the closest anyone came was Neil Hodgson who podiumed a few times and BB wasn't far behind Hodgson. As far as his 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006? I can't really explain that. Here's to a better 2007.

I'll take your word for it. I have much love for both of them. I have alot of respect for Eric riding around on that 750 Kawa while everybody else was on a liter. His determination made Mladin annoyed at a Fontana race I saw, during the trophy ceremony and interview, Eric said he might have got Mat if he was on a liter, Mat said something stupid and the crowed effectively booed Mat. It was funny, but made me an instant fan of Eric. Ben is Ben, you can’t help but want to get close to the guy hoping some of the glamour brushes off.

That's just about the most accurate description of the Bostroms I've ever heard.
