or ..........How the f... do I beat this guy??
One look at Rossi after the Qatar race would tell you that he is deeply worried about the season ahead.
The Yamaha is working a treat; it handles better than all the other bikes, loses nothing down the straight these days (only 1 kph down on Stoner)and is a great all-round package at all the circuits. Rossi has in his corner probably the most experienced and successful head mechanic in Jeremy Burgess , and Rossi is riding as well as he ever has............and yet this pesky kid can ride the unridable Ducati like an alien or unlike any adversary he has ever raced against in the past. Sure, Casey was beaten at Laguna Seca and probably succumbed to the pressure of chasing down points by crashing out at 2 subsequent races, but is this something Rossi can rely upon to occur again in 2009? It seems unlikely, as Stoner was playing catchup all season last year after a few dreadful early rounds, and this year the 09 Duc has already proved itself fast at last years bogey track. Add to this, the fact that the scaphoid injury that cost Stoner many points last season (and may have contributed to at least one of those crashes) seems fully healed , and Stoner is ulikely to feel the pressure of playing catchup from way behind. Even with bad early results, an engine failure, a demoralising defeat at Laguna seca , a few uncharacteristic crashes , and an almost perfect season for Rossi; there didn,t need to be many changes for the pressure to have been on Rossi instead, and a different world champion to be crowned.
Barring an unexpected injury, I think Rossi has little chance of holding onto the motogp title this year. Casey can hand Laguna seca to Rossi,(because it is the hardest circuit to pass on) , because he knows he will be hard to beat everywhere else.
Already the betting odds for the title favour Casey over Valentino; but why the change afer only one race that Stoner was expected to win anyway? It is becoming obvious that If Valentino himself doubts he can resist the irresistable force then so too, do many observers of motogp. Can you imagine the conversations in Valentinos pit? I,d love to be a fly on the wall. "How do we beat this guy, Jerry ?"
Rossi,s season is already toast.................. and its only just begun.
