The Other riders

I think you may be working with an older weight for Redding. He shed lbs prior to this season and is about 70kg (154lbs) at the moment... Baz on the other hand is 80kg currently...
Dang, that might be Reddings problem right there.

How much did Sic weigh?

(And thanks for the conversion. Lotus, Sparrow, pounds for .... sake, ha!)

Around 11 stone ;)
Oh for .... sake.

Speaking of Willski Male...that actually reminds me of a conversation I had with him. He told me he has no idea what he weighs in terms of pounds or klingongrams. I thought that was crazy.

Ben Spies emaciated himself. I contend it was detrimental to his health and contributed to his career end injuries and career ending injury.

Actually Jums, that would make a really interesting discussion or media article as to the ongoing or post-retirement health problems suffered by many of these riders as like you, I suspect that the need to 'trim down' would have a form of negative effect

I recall reading an article in media over here a few years back regarding the effects on Jockeys of having to trim down to a certain race weight and maintain the lower weight and it was not that complimentary to the ongoing health of many.

An assignment for Kropo.

I had a good friend who became a jockey actually (there are many Mexicans in this sport, the recent Tripple Crown winner is a Mex). He still works in the industry. He told me some horrific personal stories about trying to make weight. Apart from other heart wrenching stories about how they used to prepare the horses. Which frankly was more upsetting. --a human being has generally a choice to make. But yes jockeys abuse their bodies as I suspect the moto3 to MGP riders. Being around the AMA paddock I was stunned to see the transformation weight loss Spies underwent having met him often. My buddy mentioned how difficult of a balancing act it was trying to maintain enough muscle to ride the thoroughbreds while keeping off the weight. Riding a MotoGP bike must obviously be a complex taxing physical affair that has become increasingly sophisticated in terms of fitness. With it comes sacrifices and surely consequences.

No surprise they all started getting concentration camp thin with the arrival of the fuel limits. If this wasn't an issue for speed and fuel efficiency then why are they all much thinner than they use to be?

I think Krop has mentioned the weight issue before. It is fairly interesting. I doubt any of the riders will discuss the pressures of maintaining weight openly. They'll also never tell you openly who is providing the pressure to drop weight. Instead, everyone will shake their heads and tell you that the competitive nature of the series provides the pressure to improve performance and that no one is to blame.

Perhaps, but what about people like Spies who are retirees? Agree, its moderately interesting, but we are consumers of stuff like that. Also, yes there is potential for this to smack like whinning.

Here is another aspect of this notion, there does seem to be a discernable profile that GP seeks. First, the rider gets preference if from Spain then Europe (some might call this "conspiracy"), small in stature, young, and certainly emaciated looking if moderately tall. There is an unspoken profile, but in the case of Loris Baz, it was fairly public, too tall, and with Josh Hayes, too old.

Chaz Davies, legit GP material?

I believe he recommended Chaz Davies for the Pramac Ducati ride in 2007.

Haha, speaking of jockeys.

I got to see Chaz here in the AMA. Back then I didn't rate him despite him being a nice stand up guy who expressed humility, really, he is a good bloke, and I cheer for him. He wasnt impressive in the AMA, but again I would not say he had a competitive machine nor team here either. Which begs the question of this topic. But he did go on to win a world supersport title. And if that qualified Crutchoke a seat in GP, why not Davies?

Agreed. And he's Welsh.

Remember that incredible ride at Laguna deputising for the Hoff on the Ducati? He was also weaned in the GP paddock through the feeder classes.

Hi. I'm curious to why so many people rate Petruzzi so high. What have you seen from him other than one good wet race?

And having a little Welsh in you could never be bad, right Willski?

He is really starting to come good this year in the superbike class. I look forward in seeing a dual between him and Nick at Laguna next July ( sigh). You know I had been a bit harsh on Davies regarding his propensity to crash, but he's holding it together. Granted, the competition isnt there as it was in the last 15 years (debatable) but holding off Sykes, Rea, Jules, Haslam etal for a few of wins must be counted. His double at Laguna was impressive, and I still remember how upset he was last year to suffer a crash and subsequently not cleared to take part in the event.
