Max was a 250 hero but he was second to Doohan and Rossi in 500cc class.
<
Too bad for Max he has to move to SBK..

I don't think any of today 800cc kids can handle 500cc bike torque and sudden and brutal power delivery except for Rossi, Capirex or ex-superbike boys...

Today's Gp bikes are all about electronics, TC and tires..

Well, Hopkins rode a year on a 500 and did decently enough, all things considered. Nakano did better still, 5th as a rookie on a 500.

In the dictionary.... they should have Max Biaggi's picture next to the word choke Just the pic alone explains it all, no need to read the definition. You know what they say... a picture is worth a thousand words.

I think Nicky could have... i've always said its unfortunate that Nicky arrived in Motogp a bit too late for it.

The most aggressive, vicous and brutal bike on the grid is widely considered the Ducati, i'm sure Casey would do fine as would the best of the 250cc graduates, just as they did before the changes.

Crap....
Most of the current GP riders are all bloody good riders, and think they would do OK on the 500's. Most did OK on the 990's and I think the early 990's were as brutal as the 500's.
There was an interview last year with Mick Doohan, where he said he thinks the current riders at the top now are as good as they have ever been in history as far as ability and understanding of what it takes to go fast.
The TC, tyres, and other aids, help the riders go fast, but don't mean they could't ride the 500's or the 990's. Think that no matter what formula you introduced, the same guys would be at the top.
Big part is who has the balls to push to the limit. The same guy would push to the limit on any bike.

Ignorant is a bliss..

The earlier 990 bikes - 2002 to 2004, was with limited electronics, and if not mistaken Yam was still using carburation system..Electronics were more to cut off engine RPM or control over rev. And not to forget, 500 - 2 Stroke is NIL when come to electronic..

When Stoner and Pedrosa moved to MotoGP class in 2006, 990 bikes were already full blown with electronics, TC ,other ..... and fly by wire tecnology which allow rider to open full throttle at lean angle. It 's all done by computer to check lean angle, tires contact and how much power or torque to deliver to the rear tire thus estimate how much to inject fuel into the engine or which piston to sniz..

I could still remember how KR JR Suzi would always had problems to preserve tire for the race distance and the like of Criville , Dazza-Australian King of Sliding, Rossi were good in handling tire wear could win the race .

Of course..

The current racers are good with the 800cc bikes as they are designed specifically for them..No doubt about that..

Well they could spend their entire careers preparing to ride 500's, but it would be a waste of time. Yes the new motogp bikes have heavy electronic influences, but so did the 990's from 2003 onwards, and maybe before. Team KR admitted that they had a TC system on their 500, and i'd be surprsied if Honda didn't have at least something on the last generation NSR.

naaah none of the current riders could ever ride a 500. no way, only the riders in the 90s could ever ride them, coz they were the best ever and the current bike are like vespas compared to them.

Ah, the old days when men were men and the bikes brutal.

Love watching the old 500cc videos for a great number of reasons and the 'old school' feel has so much appeal to it.

A four time World Champion is not a choker.

IMO, Max easily usurps Randy Mamola as the best rider never to win a top class championship and was just wrong place, wrong time with two of the alltime greats around (Doohan, VR).
