Many questions to be answered, but this is one that makes absolutely no sense

The Sepang test is also the first chance to get a proper look at the

Open class. Two bikes appeal most to the imagination. The Yamaha FTR to

be raced by Colin Edwards and Aleix Espargaro in the NGM Forward team

will provide an interesting comparison of the differences between the

Open and Factory Option categories. A 2013-spec satellite Yamaha engine

and chassis, in bodywork and other parts produced by Moto2 and Moto3

chassis builder FTR, the bike should benefit most from the extra fuel

the Open class is allowed, compensating for Yamaha's traditional weak

point. There will be no need to dial back the power – other than saving

engine life, as the package being offered by Yamaha consists of just 5

engines, not the 12 allowed under the rules
– and so the bike should be

able to maintain its speed throughout the race.

Why on earth would you choose the basic Dorna ECU as an Open class competitor, and have only 5 engines to work with. Seems like it would make the extra fuel meaningless. I guess you could use the extra liters of fuel to dump through the engine to keep it cooler, in turn increasing reliability.

Probably has something to do with Dorna's insistence that only so much can be charged for a package.  Also Yamaha don't want an Open Team package pushing satellite bikes for places on the track.  Would make it hard to sell a satellite package.  Yamaha would know how much potential the engine has if it wasn't being so starved off fuel.

Only five engines? I wonder if Honda has put a similar type of restriction on the RCV1000R package.

Edit: on a side note, I'm glad the season is finally starting for real, even if it's only testing. This has been a painfully dull offseason.

The test is underway !!  is there suppose to be a live feed ?

meh... he set himself up for ridicule by maintaining his 'inside knowledge' and outright denial of any need to wait until the rubber touched the tarmac before declaring the bike a success.

and not to worry I'll not become the 'new' anyone... just continue as the same old me.

@migs - i think there are a lot less 'sock-puppents' and more 'just-plain-'tards' out there than you think!!

All in all good day for the ol man Rossi....

Yamaha have got something right all around it seems....

Honda proddy is a joke....

Hayden is not only wishing he'd gone to WSBK, but possibly even taken the Aprilia option.. eitherway his 2014 performance will not fail to amuse me.....

Ducati looking.good in the hands of Iannone - unexpected, to say the least. interestingly, he was much faster than the two other factory Ducs, which were in turn about the same pace as Hernandez on the open bike. Any info on if they were all ridinv their 'official' bikes or already switching between factory and open?

Honda proddy looks worrysome when compared to the FTR-Yamaha. I guess HRC will adjust some screws in order to close this gap. Though A. Espargaro is lookkng frightening..

Tech3 looking a bit slower than anticipated, though ut's puzzeling to me who is riding which version of the M1 and what this has to say.

Nothing too special around the old HRC and Yamaha fac&sat boys, same as with the FTR-Kawa and PBM dudes.

Can't wait for more..

Marquez is a full second ahead of last years day one test times, and within a 1/10 of the top time on day 3.
