The Italian outfit has been hard at work creating new parts that may help Casey
Stoner with his on the track fatigue issues. Livio Suppo: I would like to thank
Casey in his tiresome efforts to work from abroad dictating to Filippo what he may need
to help combat his fatigue issues in terms of redesigning certain componets. We are aware
that our bike may not be the easiest bike on the grid to ride so we started to collect
data along with rider feedback to try to determine if certain traits of the bike make
it harder to ride over full race distance. What we uncovered was that Casey's fatigue
issues were exacerbated when keeping with the lead group particularly his main rival
Valentino. When Rossi was behind Stoner and the bike was at full potential Casey felt
that the bike would load up in the rear and cause his rear end to slip around much more
than usual thus creating a need for more push from the rider leading to his fatigue issues.
This rear load issue was only encountered by Casey, Nicky has never encountered this
phenomenom
What Fillipo decided to engineer for casey was a new seating position that might help with
the problem. Basically how Casey has sat was much more in line with what most riders use.
Now we have decided to make a longer wider seat and place it lower. The rearsets are
going to be higher and the clip ons will be closer to the rider. His elbows will be closer to
his abdomen and his knees will be up around chestline. We call it posizione fetale It is going to
be a much tighter tuck position but we feel it will help with Casey comfort thereby alleviating
fatigue.
Stoner may also get some additional help from Nolan and Alpinestars. The new leathers
he will be wearing are now fitted with a larger hydration bladder. The new bladder will
fit up to 20 oz of pedialyte so he can maintain proper fluid hydration during a grueling
50 minute race. The tube that extends from the bladder will also be a larger diameter.
On previous hydration packs the tube was approximatelly the size of a pinkie. Alpinestars has
worked closely with helmet manufacturer Nolan to redesign a larger tube inlet on the front
of the helmet to accomodate the larger tube which now has about the diameter of a thumb
thus allowing more fluid and overall comfort.
