Spies will beat Edwards and Tose at Valencia

Want to take bets now?

Nope. Too many variables for me to have the guts to take a bet. Edwards should be able to finish ahead of Spies in a rational world, but it really depends on how much Edwards cares to beat Dovi to 5th. Toseland is a question mark. We'll see how his R1 test goes and then determine his level of care at Valencia.

I really want to believe Spies will surprise the MotoGP paddock in the same way he did with wsbk. I really do. It will be an enlightening weekend.

Another big question is if there are any secret trips to Japan planned for Spies between now and Valencia. That might be the difference maker.

.... he might lap toesland unless he decides to give a ..... I say he places no lower than 5th.

The test will be whether or not he can beat Edwards in his first go. It will be quite the ask, but I don't think it's out of the question.

On Topic: Lets not go crazy expecting Spies to solve world hunger, etc. A top ten finish for season end wildcard will be good enough. Remember, this is the season finale, the title has already been decided, and everybody will be trying to make a point. The worst of these will be the people exiting MotoGP: DeAngelis will be the most dangerous, perhaps wanting a trifecta. And those staying like Kallio will be in a panic to beat the new guy.

Well after the shoddy efforts put in by evryone but Stoner in the past few, I have decided to join the Spies bandwagon for Valencia .......... its mainly in the hope that Spies will come in with something to prove and accidentally find himself at Stoners pace!!

But you might be right, Toseland sure has something to prove, maybe Edwards too, but I think Hayden will want to saty the token USer too
<

So maybe Valencia will be good after all, but hey I'm going off what all you USers are saying about Spies ..... you better be right!!

Spies isn't solving world hunger?

Just give him time. He's from Texas after all. We all know how fantastic Texans are, if you're unsure, just ask one......

Kallio will beat Spies, Edwards will COMFORTABLY beat Spies, Spies will beat Toseland.

i also dont think its out the question but i think a lot of my american friends are "expecting" an 06 Bayliss fluke. im afraid you might all be a bit disappointed if he only midpacks. i hope you all bear in mind that he will be on a bike he has had no input into its development and very little time to find a set up where as bayliss had had a lot more experience with team and bike. Personally im not expecting any more that your average wildcard ride at valencia and will expect him to treat the ride as no more than getting to know his new home. next year i will gauge his worth by simonchelli.

100% right.
Spies is a great WSBK rider (possibly one of the best in the last few years), but there is a difference between WSBK and MotoGP.
I also think there is a difference between Haga on the Duc and Bayliss on the Duc, and things might have been different for Spies in WSBK against Bayliss.

I think Spies will run around mid pack, but behind Edwards, Hayden Melandri and Kallio.
If he can stay on the bike and beat home guys that have been running all year, that is a pretty good outcome.

Fair call Roger, very fair and an excelleng point of comparing him to Simoncelli (or may I also say Bautista) in 2010.

I do however expect Spies to beat Toseland and say that as JT must be feeling very unwanted at the moment by Yamaha who will likely not provide him with the best equipment at this point, instead getting Spies and early start (understandable).

So, will JT be super motivated (ie. stick this in your pipe and smoke it) or lack it (ie. damn, can we get this over) - big question and one that will play its role?

As for Spies beating CEii, well another interesting question as in reality it is CEii replacing JT and Spies replacing CEii in that team so I expect CEii to be very motivated to beat Spies.

At the time of the 990s, a fast rider like Spies coming from WSBK could have pulled a surprise wildcard. But now, with these complicated 800cc that have to be ridden a la 250... He'd have to be really adaptable and really, really good to be successfull from the start. If he can, he's a Rossi
<

If Rossi is pissed at Lorenzo wait until he gets a load of Spies. If you think he's ordinary you've been on Mars for the last year.

Spies rode suzi before at a track he knew at the back of his hand-Laguna Seca Last Year..is bcoz the bike or he what. I think he can beat JT..but not Edward, unless Edward got some problem to get hole shot..

God I love me some spies coolaide. But gaz summed it up best, I really have no expectations for this race.

Is Spies Lorenzo? Is he Stoner? Is he even a mere Pedrosa? Not today, not tomorrow, not even close. I realize that for many Americans Spies is the second coming. It's been a tough 8 years in the US but honestly, the hysteria is a bit much. Ben won SBK but not until the LAST race at the LAST round against a guy who's never been a SBK champion. He's certainly performed extremely well but to think that Rossi would even be remotely concerned at this point is pure fanboy wishful thinking.

Ben will do well enough next year to earn a shot at the factory machine but he's not going to threaten any of the top 4 consistently. I suspect he'll have less than two podiums if any in 2010. A great many things can happen by 2011 so there's no reason to even speculate. This last race of the season will prove perplexing I imagine. I don't see any of the top riders having a bin it or win it mentality particularly since the title has been decided.

Spies will finish 8th and the 2010 testing season will begin. That's when we'll see what the 2010 season has in store for us.
