Not exactly startling news really as it is being reported in European press but they stipulate that it is a loud rumour.

The story being WSBK Yamaha in 2009, MotoGP Yamaha in 2010.

If true that is an interesting WSBK Yamaha squad with two untried (at world level, but you have to get experience somehow) riders in Sykes and Spies.

Will try to find the links that have been posted elsewhere.

Motogpmatters.com

Yamaha is giving a few looks with rookies next season. Sykes, Spies, and now Guintoli all signed or rumored. All very good riders though.

Guintoli has definitely tested the factory Yam for WSBK, but nothing seems solid at the moment. His best time at Vallelunga was 1 sec slower then Haga's pace, on Haga's bike. According to an article on crash.net :

QUOTE:
"Instead, Guintoli is thought to be heading for a ride with Yamaha France, which has one seat open alongside David Checa, while Meregalli claims to be on the verge of naming his second rider."

http://www.crash.net/motorsport/wsbk/news/..._wsbk_test.html

I hate to say it, but if you have to pick a token rider in MotoGP, Guintoli certainly was one. His championship record in his years of 250's before joining MotoGP was 14th, 10th, 14th, 10th, 9th. Hardly the pedigree to be joining the "best motorcycle racing on the planet". A satellite Yam team in WSBK is a good place for him.

According to Soup Jake Zemke has also tested a factory Yamaha WSBK in the past week or so.

It'd be great to see him there, looks like everyone who can is trying to get out of the AMA/DMG/USSB or whatever it's going to be.
Everyone except for maybe Spies, that is.

Spies has signed up to be the new Mladin. He's going to be a household name in American racing to the tune of 2 million + lucrative endorsements brought in by the new advertisers.

<
I can't say I blame him. Screw MotoGP when you can bank 5 million a season at home while helping improve the AMA.

Yeah, Mladin did wonders for AMA.

If you have to pick a token satellite team in MotoGP, the 2007 Tech3 certainly was one. Last in line for upgrades and stuck on Dunlops? Would an aspirational rider with decent prospects be interested in that? Who but a mediocre rider with little to lose would be very interested in it? Other than the Roberts family bike there wasn't a ride even close to as bad on the grid.

He still beat Shinya though

Heck, he even almost podiumed.

What are you talking about man... Team Roberts kr211v gathered 2 podiums in the 2 years they were onboard, not bad for a team who designed their own chassis i'd say.

And who are you talking about that almost beat Shinya?

Spies is linked as Tom Sykes teammate now for Suzuki in World Superbike. This is the latest on Crash.net

Zemke is rumored to be the rider for start up team Boulder Motorsports in WSBK on a Ducati.

Yeah...

Many times I wonder what you actually watch, because I'm fairly certain it's not motorcycle racing.

Yeah I read that. Ben on the L&M Ducati, those were the good old days. Hopefully he can keep it upright and in front of Zemke, should be interesting.

Nice of him to get a "hair cut", he really means business...hahaha.

Yeah, lots of the thins I read about BBoz lately just leave me dumbfounded. He's so laid back and he's faster than he's been in a while. I suppose not rock climbing and surfing around the word mid-season will give a guy a bit more focus and time to be laid back.
