<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>The 2009 destination of AMA Superbike champion Ben Spies 'should' be announced at the inaugural Indianapolis Grand Prix from September 12-14.

Indy will mark the Texan's third and final MotoGP appearance of the season for Rizla Suzuki, having finished 14th during a last minute stand-in ride at Donington Park and then eighth as a wild-card at his home Laguna Seca event in late July.

"I'm looking forward to going back to Indy and being part of history," said Spies, who - unlike the regular MotoGP riders - was able to test at the new Indy MotoGP circuit in July. "Some great things are coming together for next season and that's got me excited as well."

Spies has made his intentions to secure a full time 2009 grand prix ride clear and has been linked with (amongst others) Rizla Suzuki, Gresini Honda, Alice Ducati and JiR Honda in MotoGP - plus Ducati Xerox and Alstare Suzuki in WSBK.

Despite insisting that it is close to new deals with both Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen, neither have yet been announced as remaining with Suzuki for 2009 - leaving the door open for Spies - although the most recent rumours suggest that a satellite Honda seat is more likely.

"We are still in negotiations with numerous teams," Doug Gonda, Spies' manager, told Crash.net. "We should be able to announce a deal at Indy."

After Indy, Spies only needs to finish 19th or better in the AMA season finale at Laguna Seca on September 28 to clinch his third straight AMA Superbike title for Yoshimura Suzuki.

We all know that his goal is to be on a MotoGP bike in 2009, so for him to say that exciting things are shaping up, I can only imagine that he's got a GP ride in the works.

What do you guys think...will Suzuki add him as one of the two factory riders? Will they run a third bike? If so, will Spies be on it? is he headed to Gresini?

I can't wait to hear his announcement at Indy, and even more than that I can't wait to see him ride there! I think he's gonna tear up, as he is one of the only people who has ever ridden the circuit, and on a GP bike no less.

I'm with ya on seeing him ride @ Indy, I think he'll do well. I think the most important part of the puzzle is time on the bike, the MotoGP bike, and this is going to work against Ben. He'll be racing against the best in the world, guys that have been using their equipment all season. It will still be interesting to see him on a course that is new to all.

wonder if he will be on a new chassis GSVR or an old one? that could be telling if hes going to honda or ducati...

'great things' that is...oops.

I'm guessing he's on a Suzuki, but it's hard to say.

I seem to remember reports that Hayden would be making an announcement at San Marino.

I'm not holding my breath.

I hope its true and I hope he signs with a solid team.

Wasn't that rumor debunked because of Hayden's contract with HRC? That being HRC riders cannot make those types of announcements until after the season, like Valentino did at Valencia 2003.

I don't think suzuki will run three riders. I think it all comes down to what CV's doing. If he stays, Spies won't be at suzuki, if he goes then Spies may well have a factory ride for next year.

I was kind of hoping that Hayden would announce a Ducati contract at Indy. That would loosen up a few knots. And ofcourse it would be good publicity for Ducati.
Then i think many Honda rides are going to be decided shortly after.
If Spies is going to a Honda team or Suzuki (Not likely) or Alice or Xerox it could be announced soon.If it's possible any team signing him would probarbly try to do it at Indy for the publicity. That's my guess anyway.

I think so too.... because wasn't there a rumour that Chris Vermuelen was supposed to take a pay cut if he wanted a seat for next year? In my opinion Spies is going to take CV seat. Spies afterall DID say he had a 'exciting' announcement to make meaning it would be good news for Suzuki fans who've been following his career with the manufacturer. Chris Vermuelen will most likely find a place in MotoGP if the rumuors are true that there will be 2 new teams plus a 3rd Kawasaki ride for next year. My guess is that Vermuelen will be on that 3rd Kawasaki.

Yes,probarbly.
I wonder if (Suzuki )Denning is having second thoughts about the wildcard ride and testing if it is unlikely he is going to Suzuki.

I think he said that there was a strong rumour that Spies had been offered a ride on the JiR Team Scot Honda in 09.

Ducati want Elias to stay in the Alice team and KTM are trying to convince Kallio to stay in 250's.

Sure they want him now that he has been on the podium the past two races.

The fact of the matter is Toni has already signed with Jorge “Aspar” Martinez Team which will run the third Kawasaki. Its a one bike team.

How do you know that he's already signed?
