The sad thing about Toni Elias, is that the one day he was given equal equipment, he made the most of it, and won the race. Albeit he needed Kenny Jr to ....-up near the end there though. But it should have been an eye-opener to everyone about how unbalanced things are in MotoGP, that it was considered perfectly acceptable for Michelin to supply only certain riders with the Saturday Night Specials.

Whatever one wants to say about Toni Elias, he won a premier class grand prix against Valentino Rossi who had every conceivable advantage going for him, whereas Elias did not.

To think after that .... by Pedrosa HRC created the Pedrocycle and marginalized the guy who won them the title, while Pedro almost obliterated the opportunity. Meanwhile, according to rumors, Yamaha were ready to sac Lorenzo for hurting Rossi's feelings. The boppers were ready to crucify Jorge for saying RD were incompetent. Haha. They would have lynched Marc had VR crashed in Sepang. Anyway, im still glad Pedro never won a title, and with the sudden love fest for him this year, I still hope he never does. As I said in another thread, if we've learned anything this season, it's not just that politics are important, they may be the only thing important.

I'm a huge Elias fan. He was very underrated and was very fast in glimpses during 2006, 2007 and even 2008 on the GP8 (where he scored a few podiums, including at Misano).

Nowadays, he's obviously dropped off the cliff a bit.

His style was very peculiar. Basically, he needed the softest rear tyre and the hardest front tyre to go fast.

Horrible torpedo by Stoner, by the way, which destroyed Sete's shoulder and finished his career (and Casey took his seat!).

Stoner crashed in front of Gibernau and was hit by him so you can hardly call that a torpedo....but don't let those pesky facts get in the way of a good story.

Gibernau had also previously damaged the same collarbone and had it plated.....

It was his mistake, in his rookie year; lost the bike after overcooking a corner and following riders ran into him. He seemed immediately to acknowledge, and to be very upset about, having caused the crash, and changed his approach subsequently, never having another crash which took out, let alone injured, another rider to my knowledge in the remainder of his premier class career which obviously ran for 6 more years after 2006.

RCV600RR, agree about Toni, he was underrated. He went on to win the first Moto2 championship. I just think he was the odd man out in a sea of talented Spaniards.

Btw, I think Stoner didn't torpedo him, can't remember exactly now, but I thought he had fallen then Sete crashed in to him. Then he was replaced by Stoner.

Edit: ah, ok, yeah I think that's what I remember, twas a long time.

Yeah, he couldn't even get a seat in the alpinestars hospitality at Indy because me and Jum wouldn't move.

Jum, just thinking about that. Remember looking down from the grandstand at the mass of people standing outside the Yamaha all day...then the Colombian girl just standing around the paddock whenever we were in there. Not once did she see the track....

But the best bit. Remember those two autograph hunters who were relentlessly chasing down anyone and everyone...until Hector walks past them 1' away in his leathers and they didn't even look at him. Totally blanked him. Not one ounce of interest...poor Hector

Who said MotoGP doesn't like NASCAR?
