Simon tests for Ducati at Jerez

By Matt Beer Friday, March 19th 2010, 10:39 GMT

Ducati gave reigning 125cc champion Julian Simon two days of testing at Jerez this week.

The Spaniard was called up after Ducati's scheduled test rider Franco Battaini was injured.

Simon completed 115 laps for the Italian squad, including a race simulation, as he carried out development work. Although full timings were not issued, he lapped in the 1m41s region.

His main focus this season will be the new Moto2 championship, which he is graduating to with his 125cc squad Aspar.

Nicky Hayden - 10th fastest - 1'42.098 (69 laps) his time from his early/first Duc Test jerez

Sounds like ducati is amassing talent and introducing potential riders to the Beast as soon as possible to give more time to get to know the bike.

I was real impressed when I read this. I am curious what the weather was like, but there could not have been a lot of rubber down on the track either way so the time is solid.

Simon seems talented on a wide variety of bikes (cept that 250 he was on the other year), jumping onto the new duc was interesting. Either the bike really is a cinch to ride now or Simon is a talent. We'll see.

I like simon, I hate jorge martinez aspar. For that reason I want elias to beat simon in Moto2.

Definitely impressed as well, though it is a bit difficult to compare times. If the big bang is going to make a difference at any track, it would be Jerez, imo. No long straights and fast sweepers everywhere.
