Sepang Test (Jan 31st - Feb 2nd 2012)

It does have a little M1ness about it from the front, and to see Rossi himself looking like and possibly (from above pic) working like a crew member in all of the shots is very, very unusual, there is a lot on the line-maybe moreso than ever for all involved.......
 
isit me or are the side fairings and front of the gp12 looking abit anorexic?

It does look thinner, probably easier to fit a radiator without a cylinder head in the way to work around.
 
No you have to look at it realistically Curve, Rossi has not had a competitive race for way over a year!! And for that year he was tentative to scared shitless, on the bike. It will be a difficult retraining for him ....... if all works well.

I'm giving Rossi 3 rounds, not because of the bike, but because he is out of practice. I don't even expect great results from the test, but I do expect improvement.



Same goes for Nicky.
 
Yeah that would be if it was the GPbm. That cylinder is now up higher so they could slim it down in front of the crankcase.

I'll be impressed if they did manage to keep to 90 and also fit everything. In this pic you can see the bikes used to be fat to make room for the rad. I know they had problems with cooling when they went to fatter fork tubes because the lack of flow over what little surface area they had to work with. They might have killed two birds with one stone.

I don't think it would be a problem at all, at the front. I actually think it makes the radiator etc. sensible up front.



Its the rear cylinder that had me worried. ie. how will they exit the exhausts, will it be too hot around that region and affect the swingarm and shock etc. Will the seat be too wide now.



Lots of evaluation to do and I expect lots of bugs need ironing out.

So its more of an M1 with a Honda engine.

Overnight rain has delayed the start of the first MotoGP test of 2012, being held at Sepang in Malaysia.



The green lights went on at 10am local time, but with the track still damp all riders remained in the pits.



The delay certainly didn't seem to concern Valentino Rossi, who wandered into the Sepang paddock at 10.30am. Rossi and team-mate Nicky Hayden are due to try the 'all new' version of the GP12 for the first time today.



The twelve manufacturer MotoGP riders are present for the three-day test, plus some CRT machines.



UPDATE: Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa was the first rider on track at 11:15am.​
