Schwantz remembering Sic.

That was a nice article and it really shows his fun loving personality, he must of been an absolute blast to hang out with.

Thanks for sharing this,

It is a nice article with a few funny stories and it shows they have been really friends.

I really appreciate all those who have said nice words about him, especially the riders, they all reacted very respectful. Thanks to Stoner, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Dovisiozo, Hayden, Aoyama, Rossi, Edwards and all the other riders and of cource Kevin Schwantz.

Great article and on the money, Simo was a stand out to me. Many riders are in the field due to their passport. Marco was just passion, call it Italian passion if you will but his passion wasn't something that could be defined or contained merely by nationality.

It is why I was arguing as much as I could for him to keep is factory ride over Dovi.

I thought that he of all the riders there stood a chance on the 1000cc bikes of taking it to Stoner and Lorenzo.

He hyad already shown he could ..... slap Jorge in a press conference.

Kevin is right, he was a stand out. A great showman, comedian, rider and racer.

That much personality and skill in one package.

I'm going to miss him.

Personally I thought this article was the worst of all the tributes to Sic that I have read.

"There were three standouts in the sport, and now there are two. I'm probably going to get under some people's skin saying this, but it's Maverick Vinales, Marc Marquez, and it was Simoncelli. These are guys who were good figures for the sport. They always look to be having fun. There's always going to be the Pedrosas. There's always going to be the Stoners. But once Valentino is gone, all the character in the sport is gone."

I thought this paragraph was quite insensitive given the circumstances and just plain wrong - Simoncelli, Vinales and Marquez are the three standouts?

To me there are currently 2 guys in the world who stand out.....Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo. All the other riders fall in line behind them as far as I am concerned.

And why he chose to single out Dani and Casey are beyond me as I am sure both are grieving the loss of a fellow competitor and to attack them in a written tribute to a fallen rider was completely uneccesary.....so they are quiet and probably not comfortable in the limelight being somewhat introverted...do we really need a grid full of clowns to heighten interest in the sport? Just because they dont choose to pillion blow up dolls around on the slow down laps does not diminish their value to the sport at all. I guess I define "character" in a different way.

Kevin Schwantz was, and still is, one of my favourite riders of all time partly because he was flamboyant and wore his heart on his sleeve.....but it was mainly due to his incredible riding, bravery and skill on a bike. That will always be the defining measure of a riders worth and value to the sport for me.

One paragraph that you disagree with does not necessarily make it "the worst of all the tributes".

I was a huge Schwantz fan in the 80s and thought that his tribute was heartfelt. The fact that you didn't like his opinion on one aspect doesn't make it a a bad tribute for a bloke he obviously liked, was friends with, and will genuinely miss.

It does if the others he's read have no paragraphs he disagrees with, it's just an opinion at the end of the day. I see where Squiggle is coming from as he obviouly feels its not appropriate to insinuate two of the most high profile riders in the sport have less value than others. It also raises the discussion about the importance of being fan friendly off of the bike, some people feel it is fundamental, some people feel it shouldn't be significant compared to riding. What puzzles me is the other names Kevin mentions, Marquez and Vinales haven't stood out to me as real standout characters. Perhaps they haven't come out of their shells fully yet, or Kevin gets it because he sees more of them than we do but to me both of those men seem pretty straight down the line professionals with all the usual PR scripts well rehearsed.

I just felt it was inappropriate to criticise other riders at this point in time.....you can still write a fitting tribute without bringing others down.

I had no problem with the rest of the article. But that one paragraph was poor and hence why I rated the article as the worst of the tributes I had read.

Gardner, Ryder, Moody, Krop and many others all did a better job.

Stoner and Pedro are not characters, but they do have character.Personally, its the kind of character i admire in a person. Pedro could smile a little more often, and ditch the smothering leech manager, but quite, reserved and business like is what i admire in a superstar. Go about your business, do your interviews and thats all i want to hear or see. Their talent is enough show for me.

You know Pov.....I dont think I have ever disagreed with you about any topic I have read on this forum....and once again you have summed up my feelings about this subject.

As long as we dont start discussing politics I cant see myself ever arguing with you

A couple of things,

1. I agree, I don't think taking digs at Stoner and Dani needed to happen in a piece meant to commemorate the death of another rider, why include that in your piece? It's bad form!

2. I feel exactly the same about Pov. Funny you wrote that.

Come to think of it I cant recall ever disagreeing with your views either Levi

Schwantz cant help himself. He also used to take digs at Rainey for being too intense, too serious, not displaying a fun loving personality. I bet the real problem was he was also too hard to beat. This is just another re-run using other riders. No co-incidence he thinks riders who celebrate a lot have more 'character'. Depends on your definitition of character I guess.

Pedro is definitely an unusual character. I dont remember there always being Pedrobot types?
