Hi guys, new on here, mainly joined to ask this question. Next year is my 30th and the race closest to the date is the Sachsenring. Trying to persuade the wife it's a good idea to go, the question is: what are the facilities like for camping? She won't go if she can't plug in the hairdryer
<
and if there aren't enough toilets. Hoping someone on here has been.

hi and welcome. funny that because i joined to ask about valencia and have been here ever since. i got loads of useful info and even a place to stay so keep looking at the thread and keep your fingers crossed.

Same Here... I joined to find some information about Phillip Island. I was even hooked up for paddock passes for qualifying by one of the members. I got to meet nicky (theres a couple pics on my myspace page) Loads of great people on this forum.

I'm kind of interested in Sachenring myself since I will be moving to Germany in 2008. I plan to hit every European GP I can.

been there in 2003. the race was fantastic but the things around the race sucked big time.

we stayed on a normal camping, we didn't made any reservation for it and we had a fantastic place. it was a camping with normal showers, toilets, your wife can use her hairdryer.

there's also one big mountain, and I'm not lying with saying MOUNTAIN, full of tents and bikes and just lot's of drunk german people. it's a bit like the open pastures in assen/donni. no toilets/showers, no options to dry your hair. but you can avoid the mountain and just go to a camping.

beside the race we found it very hard to find any fun places in that village, I think it was Hohenstein-Ernstall. we found 1 pub (named 'Bier garden blabla something'
<
), but they were so busy they couldn't serve us. there was a big podium with a band that played awfull german music. we had to eat at a 4 star restaurant called 'die vier schwanen' and we met Ukuwa at that restaurant/hotel. one advice from me is to bring lot's of money

maybe christiana can help you further. I know she's been to the sachsenring last year, maybe she can tell you more about the facilities etc.

Thanks for the welcome, and particularly thanks for the info 46marijke69. As I'm going for a special occasion I fancy getting a grandstand seat (which I never do at Donnington). Here's a link showing all the stands and their views (click on tickets > GP tickets). I don't know how the land slopes etc. but stand 2 looks like it could potentially see the entry and exit for turn one. Anyone know if that's the case or if one of the other stands is better for any reason?

I can't help you with the grandstand 2 tickets. from what I can remember of the track, it was indeed with slopes. We had normal entree tickets, and we sat on a little hill beside a grandstand (and we had to walk realy long and up-hill to get there
<
) so the track must have some slopes too!

maybe christiane (post above me) could tell you more??

My ticket are bought. So I sit at the grandstand.

there you have good views of the start and finish line, the boxes, podium and videowall.

Hello everyone,

I am German and I´ve been to Sachsenring GP for the last 8 years. I grew up in Saxony and know the region very well.

If someone of you guys needs some advice, just ask me.

Grandstand ticket for Sachsenring is a good thing. Sachsenring GP was sold out the last years. In 2007 there will be about 200,000 fans and some good parties.

Don´t forget to watch the soccer game for riders for health on Thursday.

There's also one big mountain, and I'm not lying with saying MOUNTAIN, full of tents and bikes and just lot's of drunk german people.--->> Yes, the mountain is called Ankerberg. Hey, we have very good beer in Germany and most of the people can´t get enough of it :)

Warsteiner? Not the greatest one but maybe good enough for foreigners :)

I take it that's Stand 1 on the diagram of the circuit? Sounds good, in case that's sold out can you recommend any other stand as well please?

I recommend stand 1. Stand 1 on the diagram is the start finish stand. As it has been said you can see the boxes, the podium and a video wall is included. Stand 1 is very interesting on Sunday because you can see the start lineup and the award ceremony.

The last years it has been possible to switch the stands on Friday that means with a ticket for stand 1 (Friday - Sunday) you were allowed to use all other stands on Friday. For the training stand 2 called Schumann Reisen is very nice. Last year I bought tickets for stand 10/4 called KTM which was good, too. But for the race on Sunday stand 1 is the best.

Have you decided where to stay for these 3 days? You have the possibility to camp at Ankerberg. But you won´t be able to sleep very much the whole weekend. It´s very loud there the whole night. And if it rains some days before camping there is a disaster.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Is it possible to stay in a hotel nearby, I think the one hotel in Hohenstein-Ernstall is already booked, but there may be something in Chemnitz? Would travelling from Chemnitz by train into Hohenstein and then walking be feasible?
edit: and have you got any idea when it's likely to sell out?

I don´t recommend Chemnitz because it´s quite far away from Sachsenring. It´s possible to go by train to Sachsenring but for me it seems to be not comfortable. If you want to go by train it could be a tricky case because I think trains are unlikely to go many times a day from Chemnitz to Hohenstein-Ernstthal.

I recommend to book a hotel or something like that in Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Here is the link to the homepage to Hohenstein-Ernstthal: http://hohenstein-ernstthal.de/php/news.php

There you can find accomodations in the section "Tourismus". Unfortunately, it´s only available in German. If you need some help please advice.

I can´t tell you when the tickets will be sold out. Next year is the first year since 1999 that I won´t go to Sachsenring (but hey, I have bought my tickets for Laguna 2007 already). The years before the tickets have been sold out in January/February as far as I know. I bought my tickets always quite early. If you want to go to Sachsenring and see the race I would buy the tickets as far as possible. Granstand 1 is also a very favored grandstand.

Hey, that´s a good thing because many people who grew up in the German Democratic Republic don´t speak english. German could be very helpful when booking a hotel :)

If you need some help ask me, ok?

I will do.

My wife lived in Leipzig for a while as a student, so I'm a bit familiar with the area. Do they have that strange accent in all of Saxony or just Leipzig?
